Are you forgeting Sasuke can extend his Chidori.I bet he could of cut the tree easily aswell.But a better comparing is the Lava RS and Chidori against Madara,considering they both hit him.

Although Madara was still injured when Naruto's hit him,and it still did less damage than when Sasuke sliced him in half when he was recovered.

The attack was more focused on the tree, but it still did a lot of damage to Madara's body. Anyway, chidori pierces and a sword gets sharper when coated with lightning. While Naruto'si rasengan attacks are more explosive. You can't cut with an explosive power, only blow stuff up or away.
