Minus the duh. Shikamaru and Itachi are both brilliant shinobi in there own right.

I will give you this though. "Shogi" is similar to chess so Shikamaru definitely has the advantage.

I bet Shikamaru. Itachi is smart but Shikamaru is used to making plans and stuff. Itachi is more battle smart than shogi smart.

Yup , Thats what i was trying to say, Minato and itachi aren't exactly all battle smart(naruto), they are geniuses in intellect also, but they excel in battle, being able to quickly analyze situations and find the weakness of enemies , Shikimaru specializes in strategy and planning

itachi is smart in combat not really strategy.
Like a UFC fighter vs a general in chess. Obviously the general would win, but the UFC fighter is a smart fighter.

Shikamaru is smart in planning the strategies and yes his plans always succeed because he takes lot of risks in the plans , whereas itachi is smart in battle aspect , knowing and anticpating and analysing other moves. Both have equal intelligence , but in a game like this i guess Shikamaru may have a upper hand , but never underestimate Itachi.
