So, we know that in order to get EMS you have to take the eyes of your brother - who has MS - and put them in place of your MS eyes.

Now, the way EMS was obtained always resulted in 1 of the 2 bro's dying. Izuna was sick and Itachi was already dead.

But...

What IF Sasuke and Itachi were both alive, both had MS and they simply traded eyes? as in Itachi took Sasuke and Sasuke took Itachi's. Kind of like card trading

Would both get EMS?

Also why did Tobi give Sasuke Itachi's eyes when he could take one of them for himself and gain Amaterasu or Tsukuyomi?

yes, I think they would both get the EMS, but itachi would be too OP if they gave him EMS also^^

and Tobi would loose Kamui, which only his eyes can perform, which is the base of his whole fighting style

Tobi only has 1 of his MS eyes ( Kakashi has the other one ). He could have taken Itachi's MS for the eye he lacked.

I also wonder why Tobi never tried getting his eye back from Kakashi.

well if I had to come up with an explanation i´d say you need to transplant from an eye that had the MS to get the EMS, since he lost his eye before getting it to MS, the transplantation would have no effect
but that´s pur speculation on my part

No no, I mean... Obito only has 1 eye which gives him Kamui.

He could have taken Itachi's MS for the Amaterasu, as in, it's not EMS but it's still better than nothing.

And he could take Kakashi's eye because Kakashi has a ranged Kamui. Also, two MS eyes usually end up to a stronger technique ( Amaterasu + Tsukuyomi = Susanoo )

I've always found this a massive flaw in the manga, but Sasuke couldn't take Itachi's eyes simply because Itachi was blind.

maybe he planned ahead, because he knew that he had to control the gedo mazo himself eventually, for which he needed the rinnegan

and going through all that effort just to ditch the new eye for the rinnegan wouldn´t make much sense

also he didn´t plan on fighting himself, his original plan was to get the akatsuki to do all the work for him, so he wouldn´t need the sick MS jutsus at this time

Tobi had to operate on Sasuke and he had the bandage around his eyes, like after a surgery.

Obito also had a back-up plan with Sasuke to get Rinnegan and use it to revive Madara (which is why he kept him around). He didnt give him Senju DNA because he wasn't sure if he could controll his actions and go along with his plans (stated in Manga somewhere haha)
