Chat service on the NB? Why not?

You know, i was just thinking that the other day, it's kinda annoying the way we have to use to post to several people at the same time so i think a Chat service would be great. Not trying to emulate Facebook somehow, just throwing ideas to make things easier. Any thoughts, NBasers?:shrug:

Use MSN or Skype, this has been suggested countless times, all been declined. Plus if they were to put a chat in, it would slow this site down completely. For smaller sites not so much, but for this plus only some chats like Envolve can only hold up to 25 people. Be a bit hard for this site, don't you think?

Even if you only allow premium and contest winners in it, still wouldn't work.

Suggested various times already and explained various times before why it isn't possible. The site would be slowed down a lot in case there was a chat available. They already had to upgrade the whole system because the site couldn't take on the influx of new members (already more than 100 000 members registered), adding a chat system would make it slow down again.

Also you can exchange MSN if you want to chat. There's also private messaging and visitor messaging if you want to talk to someone on the site, so there's no need to add a chatbox to the site

The amount of people chatting at a time, would there be any conscious conversation or everyone spamming so they're messages aren't flooded away.

Also i've noticed that sites with chatboxes have more inactive forums than those without. A chat service would essentially go against the purpose of achieving active forums.

I second this. In addition, if they were to add something like chat, it would defeat the purpose posting, post count, etc. If you want to chat with friends then do as Nathan, suggested. Use MSN, Skype, Facebook or other similar services,. This is a forum, not a chat-room.

As stated by many of the posts above, the answer is simply No.

Why?
-Way too many members
-May overload server
-Defeats the purpose of a forum. You've got PM's and VM's
-Suggested plenty of times before
