What I meant to say was, that any form of bashing would still be bashing even if you use flowery words, but legitimate criticism will always be legit no matter the vocabulary used. :)

I know that and I agree with you on that, but you can't deny some people there can't just take the criticism about a fictional character and just scream character bashing.

Its all about presentation...... Rose bushes can have deadly thorns, but pieces of ***t can only have dung beetles.

Allow me to add a reply to this? Sometimes it's personal for other reasons. For example, attacking Sakura's chest. I'm just as tiny and it makes me feel bad about myself when people joke about it. It's a sensitive thing for me.

Well, if someone attacks Sakura's chest then know for sure they don't intend to add any constructive criticism and just want to hurt the fans behind knowing some are sensitive about some things, flamebaiting and all that.

I agree, sometimes others use it as an excuse to flame even more, that is why I think the no character bashing rule is somewhat self-defeating, that its' outcome is contrary to its' intended purpose which is to prevent spam/trolling/hating.

I guess I'm assuming that sometimes character bashing is taken seriously because maybe the character the fan likes is someone they relate to, and maybe those attacks affect them on a more personal level. Of course there are those that just love flame wars, but sometimes I wonder if taking it personally is due to things like that.

Yup, if there wasn't any attachment from the fans, there wouldn't be any flamewars to begin with, because nobody would care what others say, it's fūcking human nature I guess, and inevitable no matter what rules are imposed.

The person that will post something like that is the apotheosis of asininity.

I agree. Many people claim they aren't attached to characters, but if that was true, they would't take it so personally. I may get upset with the chest comments, but I do not go on there and attack them for it. It'll only fuel the fire. However, I'm 29 and many of the people who can't handle it are younger or just mentally immature.

In the end, it's inevitable (as you said) that it will continue to happen, and if the rules become stricter, then rebellion becomes stronger.

I think character bashing is depens on person to person...For example the word "weak". It can be used as a common and straight definition; but some pople might get offended if their faved characte called "weak"; even if you give reasons...And popularity of a character is really important; for example picking on Sakura is really easy compared to picking on Hinata; again with the "weak" example; call Sakura weak no reason; everybody agrees or does not mind and say "yeah she totally is and useless she has no feats", call Hinata weak with reasons; most people would say "no she is not weak because byakugan and gentle fist!!!". Most people get blinded by their fanboyism and bashboyism to see facts; sometimes even you give real reasons to them; they would consider what had been said as bashing.
