In this thread I will try to present and comment on Orochimaru as a whole. The reason I decided to create this thread is that not only is Orochimaru severely underrated but also, due to many of his abilities being not even having names - also misunderstood. I'll also try to figure out why some of his past Databook scores were what they were.
Another reason would be that the only Orochimaru entry in the Databook regarding his stats was when he was armless, sick or dying. That's why I thought we needed a wider look at it

Orochimaru is well-known for his pursuit of knowledge and abilities so it's not surprising that he's very skilled in this area.

• Edo Tensei
  Obviously the strongerst technique Orochimaru has shown so far. It binds a soul and forces it to come back from the pure to the impure world. A vessel for that soul has to be a dead body of a human sacrifice and talismans (fuda) implanted into the Edo allows Orochimaru to completely erase their memories and personalities to turn them into killing machnies following his orders [

• Formation of Ten Thousand Snakes
  Another very strong technique that works by releasing thousands of poisonous snakes that in additions to their fangs produce a replica of Kusanagi and swarm their opponent [

  ]. Without massive aoe techniques like Kyuubi shockwaves, it becomes really deadly and almost impossible to evade.

• Eight Branches
  Orochimaru's strongest snake-like technique. According to Databook it's created with Orochimaru's usage of White Snake Regenerative Powers that he obviously has due to becoming a white snake himself and has a form of Dragon God [

  ]. Also, Orochimaru in this form managed to escape Totsuka Sword with 3 white snakes [

  ], even though its sealing power was said to be strong enough to seal anything it pierces.

• Five Elements Seal
  A very strong, A-rank seal that allows its user to disturb foe's chakra flow. Also, when used on an even-numbered seal that sealed another source of chakra inside one's body, disturbs that chakra source as well [

  ]. It's initial effects were so strong, that it made Naruto pass out and made him even unable to stand on water later on.

• Cursed Seal
  Another powerful seal that utilizes Orochimaru's Senjutsu chakra. Injecting it into one's body causes them to feel severe pain [

  ]. Also, it implants Orochimaru's consciousness and chakra inside their bodies, making Orochimaru almost immortal only thanks to this technique alone, since he can emerge from the seals if the foe is low on chakra [

  ] or releases himself after victims of Cursed Seal lost their free will [

  But as for combat usage of this technique, it can be also used to paralyse a foe and make him unable to fight [

• Living Corpse Reincarnation
  Simply, Oro's immortality jutsu. He takes over a victims' bodies and keeps their soul supressed inside his own dimension. Taking over one's body also let's Orochimaru use all their abilities and also KKG. Moreover, strong bodies compatibile with strongest variants of Cursed Seal would let him stay in them for much longer or perhaps even forever. That's why his number 1 body was Kimimaro, then Sasuke [

  ] AND that he's researched Hashi DNA thoroughly (to the point where he even knew about Zetsu's sensory abilities [

  ], gave Danzou Mokuton and actually managed to give Mokuton to Yamato), it's easily assumed that White Zetsu abilities are nothing he couldn't use. That leaves us with Zetsu Spores, Mayfly, sensory abilities and also probably Mokuton.

• Wind Release: Great Breakthrough
  A jutsu based on one of the two Nature Transformations Orochimaru has shown so far - Fuuton. It creates a massive violent gale of wind that managed to uproot giant trees in the Forest of Death [

• Sound Wave
  Actually, NarutoWikia tags it as anime-only, but it's not true. This technique was used by Orochimaru canonically and managed to harm 2 Anbu, Hiruzen and Enma to the point they landed on the ground defenseless and started to bleed [

• Kuchiyose - Manda, 3 Ribbon Snakes and Giant Twin Snakes
  Not much to write here. Orochimaru has many, many summons in his possession and these are the giant ones he summonned in the manga.

Taijutsu, Kenjutsu, Strength and Close Combat

This is the area where Orochimaru gets severely underrated in and I'll try to convince you that he's not that defenseless when it comes to Taijutsu and CQC.

• Taijutsu
  While Orochimaru hasn't shown that many Taijutsu feats, his style is different from what we've seen so far. He utilizes kicks and punches with his physique and the fact that he can get away with wounds without any backdraft. It's exactly what happened when Orochimaru rushed at Jiraya [

• Kenjutsu
  His Kenjutsu is another story. Orochimaru is very skilled in using his legendary Sword of Kusanagi, which was proven for example when Hiruzen rushed with Enma staff on Orochimaru who didn't even have his Kusanagi in his hand. Yet he managed to equip it in time and repel consecutive Hiruzen's attacks [

  Orochimaru also developed techniques to enhance his sword fighting - and that being his Longsword of the Sky jutsu, letting him to control his Kusanagi with some sort of levitation and thereby making it in fact another opponent that Oro's foes have to encounter at the same time [

  ].Another testament to his Kenjutsu skill was training Sasuke to the point of him becoming extremely proficient with Kenjutsu [

• Strength and CQC with usage of Snakes
  Orochimaru's strength and close combat potential are also very wide, yet underrated.
  With use of his tongue he can effortlessly throw people around with a great force [

  ] and his punch managed to even deform 4tailed Kyuubi's face [

  ].
  
  Also, just like others use boost their Kenjutsu/Taijutsu with Kunai, Senbon or other weapons, Orochimaru does it as well with extensive usage of his Snakes and poison. Orochimaru often relies on his

  . Both described in the Databook as poisonous serve as another source of lethal attack and extension of Orochimaru's arms and grips.
  Another thing worth noticing is the massive strength of these snakes. Snake Glare effortlessly stopped raging Juugi and Suigetsu in the middle or their attacks [

  ] and Shadow Snake Hands effortlessly stopped a point-blank, already accelerated God Tree's branch [

  ], Enma [

  ] and A SINGLE (!) Shadow Snake managed to stop and constrict rushing 4tailed Kyuubi's arm [

Genjutsu

Many people, me included, always wondered why Orochimaru had a 5 in Genjutsu in the Databook. Considering that he hasn't used any Genjutsu yet and that Itachi caught him in his Genjutsu made things even more strange. But let's take a look at this scan [

Orochimaru right away could tell what was the technique and was surprised that himself, out of all people, was the one to get caught in it, so it strongly suggests that it wasn't him not being able to resist such Genjutsu cast by other characters, but it was just that Itachi was in way another league in terms of Genjutsu than probably any other character in NV and to make it even worse, the Genjutsu was a Sharingan one.
Another testament to his skill is that even while under the effect of a Binding Illusion, he still managed to attempt to release himself from it [

But that's not everything. Years have passed since his incident with Itachi and all Orochimaru did not waste a single second. He developed a complete resistance to Sharingan Genjutsu. During his fight with Sasuke he was exposed to the same Genjutsu Itachi used against him and simply

Intelligence and Knowledge

I think there won't be any exaggeration if I say that Orochimaru is the most or at least one of the most intelligent and knowledgable characters in NV. Even Hiruzen said that he doesn't compare to Orochimaru and his intelligence. I'll just list some of the thing he's done so far and back up with scans only ones that may be unknown by others.

• Managed to decypher Uchiha Stone without Sharingan!
• Created his own dimension.
• Researched Hashi's DNA thoroughly to the point he knew everything about it [

• Ran several hideouts with a great amount of prisoners without getting caught, despite being no.1 in the Bingo book [

• Researched many Kinjutsu, including immortality spell.
• Managed to re-summon the Shinigami and release the souls he had in his stomach.
• Is an expert in 'sinister' Medical techniques - experimented on infants and many other people, including tries of turning humans into snakes [

• Found Kusanagi and Ryuuchidou, which others considered legends only.

• Speed feats

A. Base Orochimaru managed to outspeed and jump away from 4tailed Kyuubi chakra arms without problems [

] and then he even managed to massively increase his agility and speed with entering Slithering Snake Mode [

B. Orochimaru also managed to blitz Kabuto and Yamato from quite a distance without them even noticing. Yamato couldn't even switch his Kunai a few inches in Kabuto's direction before they both got blitzed [

Stamina

Actually, Orochimaru is often considered a character with low stamina. But it's not true! Let's look at some scans.
Firstly, during the Sannin lockdown, Tsunade could summon a part of Katsuyu smaller than Manda and it was her limit. Orochimaru on the other hand showed he could summon 2 Giant Snakes AND Manda, despite beng feverish and weakened by the side effects of Shiki Fuuin [

Secondly, during his fight with Naruto, not only did he use his Replacement Technique quite a few times, which technique was considered very chakra-draining [

], summonned ten thousand snakes (!) and summonned Triple Rashoumon - where even a single one requires massive amout of chakra to perform [

Also, Oro's chakra reserves and chakra control were praised by Kisame and Nagato. Despite Deidara having replaced Orochimaru in Akatsuki, they still commented on how the ritual would take longer [

Moreover, now that Orochimaru took over a Zetsu body, his stamina gained a massive boost as well. We've seen what Hashi's DNA does after it gets accepted by the body (for example Obito, Danzou).

Defense, mobility and miscellaneous

• Defense
  Orochimaru is probably the most difficult character to kill or even harm seriously. He utilizes many justu to mitigate or evade damage:

A. Soft Physique - an ability to extend and control his body to an extent where he can dodge incoming attacks and surprise his foe [

B. Body Replacement - an already mentioned ability, that let's Orochimaru create another body, free from damage. Also, despite its name, it's not only replacement. He creates new limbs and body parts with it, as seen with Oro's hand cut off by Itachi, kept in his laboratory [

C. Gathering of the Snakes -an ability, where Orochimaru releases White Scaled Snakes from his own dimension to reconnect his human shell when damaged severely [

D. Triple Rashoumon - also an already mentioned ability. It let's Orochimaru summon 3 giant gates that serve as his extremely good defense against potentially lethal attacks [

Actually, Orochimaru having taken over a body can add his own layer of 'skin' not only to make him look like old Orochimaru, but also to defend him from attacks. This thin layer of 'skin' was strong enough not to let Kyuubiruto to get past it [

A. Earth Release: Hiding like a mole - an ability that let's Orochimaru instantly, without any hand seals dig underground and travel at fast speed, spy on enemies or simply use it as an escape or striking tool. Moreover, it grants its user a sensory ability due to magnetism, so using it as offense isn't a problem here [

B. Attack Prevention Technique - Orochimaru uses it to merge with other objects to evade attacks [

  Orochimaru obviously has temperature and smell sensing [

  Orochimaru is also immune to poisons, firstly thanks to his body structure and secondly thanks to his experiments with poisons and his body [

  Another feat in Orochimaru's arsenal. He showed being able to suck chakra with a mere touch and even decide what he wanted to suck out and what he didn't want to [

Shirohebi no Chikara - Power of the White Snake

1. What is the Power of the White Snake?
Power of the White Snake is a source of abilities Orochimaru utilizes through his True Form. After becoming a white snake himself (via unknown ways), he became a living symbol of rebirth. A being with incredible life force and regeneration capabilities - surpassing even the likes of Tsunade.

2. Orochimaru's two bodies. How does it even work?
Basically, the 'brain' of Orochimaru is his True Form. The human shell acts as its 'home'. But the common misconception is that the White Giant Snake resides inside of the human host. It's false - it resides in Orochimaru's own dimension.
The proof is posted below.

A. Firstly, Oro's True Form is simply

- especially with it having organs, limbs etc. In the scan below, you can clearly see that a single snake that creates its whole body is like a half of a human. And there are thousands of snakes...
B. Secondly, if Oro's True form was directly inside his human body, the blood flowing out of his body would've paralyse Sasuke and the rest -

3. Which abilities utilize Power of the White Snake and which don't?

So far 4 abilities (not only Ninjutsu) are confirmed to be based on Shirohebi no Chikara:

A. Gathering of the Snakes (fanmade name) - a jutsu Orochimaru used after getting bisected by Kyuubiruto. It can be easily seen that the snakes re-attaching him were white snakes that are a part of Oro's True Form.
B. Eight Branches - no explanation needed. Confirmed by Databook.
C. Passive regeneration abilities and greatly increased life force.
D. Everything that comes with Giant White Snake body - poisonous blood, ability to use white snakes as offense.
E*. Not confirmed, but most likely Oro's ability to modify his human hosts to make them obtain snake-like traits (Slithering Snake Mode, Soft Physique, etc.)​

Abilities that do NOT benefit directly from White Snake Powers:

A. Hidden Shadow Snake Hands.
B. Binding Snake Glare Spell.
C. Formation of Ten Thousand Snakes.​

4. What is the extent of Orochimaru's regeneration abilities granted by Shirohebi no Chikara?
As I have already said in the beginning, I believe that Orochimaru's regeneration capabilities are way above everyone else in NV. I don't really want to get deep into other things, like resistance (thanks to completely inhuman body properties) and ways of mitigating damage. I want to purely focus on regeneration.

A. Already proven, that Power of the White Snake greatly boosts regeneration and massively increases life force (look Sasuke's and Kabuto's statements).
B. Something not many people know -

It most likely doesn't even require chakra - it is based on White Snake Power alone. Also, after Itachi had cut off Yamata no Orochi's heads and stabbed Orochimaru right through his body, Oro laughed at him and commented that such a wound wasn't any threat at all.
C. Oro's regeneration doesn't apply to his human form only. In mere seconds, he managed to

after being mutilated and bisected in multiple places by Sasuke.
D. Being able to

- exactly what Orochimaru did during his fight with Naruto.​

5. Lastly, a touch on whether Orochimaru could survive decapitation or not AND about his True Form being a 'brain'.
Orochimaru and decapitation is always a touchy topic, so I want to prove once and for all, that beheading isn't stopping him. People tend to judge Orochimaru with human standards, which is actually very wrong. We've already seen that Orochimaru took 2 point-blank Chakra Scalpels from Kabuto - one to the chest and one to his throad. And while the head itself wasn't cut off, thanks to Chakra Scalpels' properties, all internal organs (in this case including spine and neural connections) were severely damaged. Something like that would've meant death to normal humans.

Another testament to my point of Oro's True Form being the brain and the one who has to be destroyed in the first place is already mentioned Gathering of the Snakes. The claim of Orochimaru needing his 'human brain' to execute any actions is false, since we've already seen that

. This is the ultimate proof of Oro's human body being only a shell and his True Body being the mastermind behind the scenes - chilling safely in his private dimension.

Nature Transformations

Since the 4th Databook came out, we oficially know that Orochimaru is one of the few characters that can use all 7 Nature Transformations. Despite we haven't seen Orochimaru use a lot of techniques outside his snake ones and stuff related to it, almost everything can be backed up with scans.

Orochimaru and his new 100% Hashi DNA body

We all know that Orochimaru took over Zetsu, but what does it really mean? Let me break it down. Orochimaru, thanks to his experiments on Hashi DNA has thorough knowledge on it [

]. The expertise can be easily seen, since seconds later, Orochimaru made use of the cells, using them to strengthen his Edo Tensei. Also, the overall aspect of Hashi DNA boosting techniques was seen when Orochimaru also boosted his Shadow Snake Hands - the snakes were several times human body size and much, much bigger compared to their versions without Hashi cells [

Below is the list of things gained by Orochimaru after taking over 100% Hashi DNA body:​

A. Orochimaru gained another source of chakra, since the previous hosts are kept captive with bodies and souls in Oro's private dimension. Also, Zetsu being made in 100% of Hashirama's DNA is a massive chakra boost.
B. Mokuton - Obito, Danzo and Yamato after having Hashi DNA implanted gained access to Mokuton. Same with Orochimaru. And to all the people saying Zetsu Clones couldn't use Mokuton as an argument against Orochimaru having it - here's the proof.

D. Parasite Clones - perfect clones with power equal to the original. They don't poof after getting hit and remain on the battlefield even after their death.
E. Chakra sensing - ANOTHER sensory ability - together with Oro's own chakra sensing, heat and smell sensing, it makes Orochimaru a beast in this field.​

Very, very nice. I remember reading the initial version of this last year, and I see you've revamped it. You've definitely showcased many of Orochimaru's lesser known techniques and feats, something which surprised me even if this was my second time reading it.

The only thing I'd want to challenge is your claim that he developed a complete resistance to Sharingan genjutsu. I see that statement as false for one major reason: it's implied that Sasuke kills Orochimaru as he attempts to "walk out" of the genjutsu, as we don't see what happens next and Sasuke is shown as the victor right after. That indicates that either he didn't break it at all, and was still in the genjutsu thinking he resisted it, or that his attempt to break it was countered by Sasuke: both indicating he has no such resistance.

But, other than that, very impressive~

Nope. Sasuke killed Orochimaru with combination of Senjutsu and Sharingan (not necessarily Genjutsu). Genjutsu Sasuke used was simply repeled.

I wonder if he had battled sasuke in an environment like he battled the 4 tails if the end result would have been different. He doesn't seem like a good confined quarters fighter at this point. Because the Oro we saw Naruto face definitely seemed more powerful than the Oro we saw sasuke fairly easily beat.

I still think that orochimaru still deserve to be the final villian. He is inteligent and 0 ignorant like others villian. His only mistake is not taking Naruto too.
During the war, madara spits out the greatest treasure, if orochimaru ever get his hand on it, he will be overpowered.

Good thread. Though you did misinterpret and overrated somethings. And some I would like to comment on. No one bothers to address them so Ill be a good sport:

Formation of Ten Thousand Snakes: Kusanagi was never implied for each snake to have in possession (even looking at DB description). That was wiki assumption that "daggers" being drawn out some how means Kusanagi. A unique blade would never be vaporize by mere shockwave.

Speed feats: Base on this where do you put Orochimaru's speed range in, compare to other characters?

Reaction feats: I get tired of being underestimating his reaction. But at the same time I can't argue and conclude reaction feat range he is in. Base on your point where do we but Orochimaru, compare to other characters in this field of reaction?

Sensory abilities: heat sense doesnt really help Oro reaction. chakra sensing is a toss up to me. But the scans you were trying to prove doesn't help. Heres a proper translation for Zetsu[
