Anko is a special jonin ranked shinobi from the Hidden Leaf. She was once Orochimaru's student. Later she, along with nine others, were used as Orochimaru's first ten samples of the Cursed Seal of Heaven. Of the ten, Anko was the only one to survive, establishing the 1/10 chance of surviving the Cursed Seal. Orochimaru then rejected Anko as a subordinate, believing she did not have the lust for power or vengeance needed to fuel the Curse Mark. Then Orochimaru lost interest in her but he believed there was some value in letting her live. (Unknown reasoning behind that, damn Oro)

Since Anko was a kid she was a very talented ninja. And think about it, for Orochimaru to be interested in her, she was special. Her training with Orochimaru has mad her stronger by giving her quicker reflexes and more accurate attacks. Her being sent to lead the team searching for Kabuto shows how much The Hidden Leaf respects her skills. During her brief fight with Orochimaru she was able to outmaneuver him several times, which I think is pretty impressive. She was also able to counter Kabuto's ambush, even though he beat her. Due to the curse mark and Orochimaru's training she is also immune to poison.

Snake Techniques

Orochimaru taught her several forbidden and snake techniques. One of which is the Twin Snakes Mutual Death Technique. This forbidden technique is a murder-suicide attack, killing both the user and the target. The user makes a one-handed seal with both their hand and the intended victim's. Two snakes are then summoned from the user's sleeve, biting both their wrists and killing them with deadly venom. When Anko Mitarashi used this technique against Orochimaru, he replaced himself with a clone to avoid harm, leaving Anko unable to finish the technique.
