Chapter Eight! Time for the truth?

For the next month or two, training was really boring and repetitive. But you and Sasuke were now well acquainted with each other, as were you with the rest of the team. But you and Sasuke just seemed to get along a little better than the others. One day after training, you had a little more energy than normal.

You: Hey, Sasuke.

Sasuke: Yeah?

You: You wanna catch a bite to eat with me at the ramen bar?

Sasuke: Why not. Less time I have to spend about thinking what I want to eat for dinner tonight.

You: Alright, come on. Hold on a minute, I need to ask Kakashi something.

Kakashi heard his name and came over to you.

Kakashi: Yeah, Ren? What is it?

You: *Whispers.* I’m gonna go eat at Ichiraku tonight, do you want me to bring you back something?

Kakashi: Uh, sure, the usual I guess. Who’re you going with?

You: Sasuke.

Kakashi: Alright, just keep it friendly, not too friendly if you know what I mean.

You: Yes, Kakashi, I know. I wasn’t even thinking about that. I just wanted to go out to eat with a friend of mine!

Kakashi: *Grins* Alright, be home by-

You: Seven thirty, I know.

Kakashi: Good.

You went back to Sasuke with a slight grin and started to walk on. He was silent on the way there so you had to start
the conversation.

You: So, where do you live?

Sasuke: I live in an apartment around here. It has a nice view. What about you?

You: Well, this is a little weird, but I actually live with Kakashi sensei. He is my legal guardian, that’s why I had to talk to him before we left.

Sasuke: Oh, how did this come to be?

You: How about we wait till we get to the ramen bar for that. It’s a long and complicated story. “This may be a good time to tell the truth.” See I come from a small village not too far from here. My family was the richest, and most conceited people in the whole village. They were prided in that. My father was a proud man, but with his genes came a pain in the butt kekki genkai that not everyone in the family got. But I was uh, “blessed” with it.

Sasuke: What is it?

You: It’s terrible, it’s like there’s a monster inside of me that attacks and kills anything in its path. I completely transform, apparently. But this only comes out when I see large amounts of blood. But it can be sensitive at times to where a scratch on the arm would set me off. But I haven’t killed anybody with it. Only birds and small rodents. I can get rid of it by killing my mother. But if I don’t get rid of it by the time I’m sixteen, I’m in cursed mode for the rest of my life. It sucks. I was told my great-grandfather had it and his sister. His sister was put into a high security prison after she went on a rampage and killed 7 people. Since my great-grandpa couldn’t kill his mom, he got his girlfriend pregnant the night before he turned sixteen. It skipped my father and his siblings but it hit me hard. Mine is apparently the most sensitive case of this. I was a shame for my family for this. So the shunned me after I showed it at age three when my sister was testing to see if I had it by cutting herself on the leg and then blaming it on me. So I was pretty much hated in my family and I was used as a slave. And I ran away one night when I was seven, I stole some of my sisters’ things that’d get me through and was off to live in the forest for five years, then Kakashi found me and took me in. There was no fire, they’re all still alive to my knowledge. I didn’t tell you the truth before because it’s really awkward to tell someone you just met their life story. You see what I mean?

He looked completely blown away.

Sasuke: Wow, uh, yeah I think I do. That’s a completely different story than you told me. I never would’ve guessed you were abused.

You: Oh, yeah. I wasn’t really physically abused that much. And that was mainly something done by my mother. She’d beat me and lock me in a closet. Then I was left in there for a few hours. But look how I turned out! *Smiles crazily*

Sasuke: *Chuckles.* Yeah, I think you’re fine!

You: Thank you. Now what about you?

Sasuke: Well, I’ve had some tragedies in my life too.

You: Oh yeah?

Sasuke: Yes, see my father didn’t really pay that much attention to me, being the youngest. My older brother, Itachi, was very advanced for his age.

You: “Is that the same Itachi? I hope he’s not the one who gave me that scar!”

Sasuke: He entered the ANBU when he was 13 I think. And soon after he became a captain for the team. See we also have a kekki genkai called Sharingan. It allows you to trap your opponents in a genjutsu and the lowest form allows the user to copy the opponent’s moves as they happen. Itachi gained this ability at like age seven? Anyways, to escalate the Sharingan, you have to complete certain tasks. To go from level one to level two, you have to kill your best friend. Itachi did that. Also he killed the whole clan to test his strength and then ran off to do whatever he wanted. He spared me only because he wanted me to live in fear and hatred and then when I’m strong enough, I have to fight him. This leaves me on my own to take care of myself.

You: Sucks, doesn’t it? Being alone all the time. No one there to provide you with what you need. Being forced to grow up before you have to.

Sasuke: Yeah. I guess we have that much in common.

You: But I guess I’m not so alone now. I’ve got Kakashi, and I’ve actually got a few friends.

Sasuke: It is nice. To have a friend I mean.

You: Are you paying for yours?

Sasuke: Uh, yeah. I can cover myself. Thanks.

You: Alright. Well then, I’d better head back to Kakashi before it’s past curfew.

Sasuke: Ok, hey I’ll walk home with you. If you want.

You: Okay, thanks. I’d like that.

After some slight conversation, he finally had to ask.

Sasuke: What is that scar on your shoulder from?

You: “I knew I shouldn’t have worn a sleeveless today.” Ummm, it’s a kunai stab wound.

Sasuke: How’d you get it?

You: Back when I lived in the forest I got mugged. I was jumped in my sleep and they stabbed me with a kunai. That’s when I met up with Kakashi, he took me to the hospital here to get it checked out and then he found out I was homeless and he took me in.

Sasuke: He’s not so bad after all, is he?

You: No, just a little off sometimes. *Smiles.*

He paid for his bill and you paid for yours after you offered to take care of the tip and headed home. He was making steam with his mouth in the night chill. You decided to join him in his fun. You both imitated dragons and you laughed when Sasuke performed a small fireball jutsu. Then you came to the door and you felt like good-bye came too soon. You wanted to spend the rest of the night having fun with your new friend. But unfortunately it was late and you could see him tomorrow too.

You: Well, here I am. I’ll see you tomorrow, Sasuke. Good-bye!

Sasuke: Alright, see ya. Bye.

You turned the doorknob as he walked away and you didn’t see Kakashi at first, which was surprising to you. You went to go see where he was and you finally found him in his study reading over some scrolls he must’ve checked out from the Konoha tactics section of the Hokage center. You knocked and entered after it was granted.

Kakashi: Hey.

You: Hi, just got back.

Kakashi: Yep.

You: What’re you looking at?

Kakashi: Oh, I’m going on a long-term mission here soon so I’m studying up on the place.

You: Oh, okay. I put your ramen in the microwave, it’s pork like you asked. I’m going to go to bed.

Kakashi: Alright, hey how’d it go with Sasuke?

You: I had a fun time with him! He’s pretty cool now that I know him a lot better. He didn’t freak out when I told him
about the curse thingy. And then he told me what happened to his family.

Kakashi: Well that’s good. At least you have a dependable friend right now.

You: Yeah, it is. Well I’m off now. G’night

Kakashi: Night, Ren.
