It really depends on how much you use your eyes actually..didn't you read the manga chapter where they said that the more you use the eyes , the more light you use up and you go blind?

Perhaps Madara spammed his MS?

Remember Sasuke and Danzo fight? Itachi had his eyes for a longer period than sasuke and sasuke within a while exhausted his eyes against danzo in one shot
