Heads up, this is really chapter four, but I've omitted chapter three from here
because it's just a bunch of useless shopping...this chapter begins when she gets back from shopping with Sakura.
Chapter 4~ getting to know Naruto!
You got home with five minutes to spare and you saw Kakashi relaxing on the couch reading his book. He looked up and from what you could tell, he smiled. You couldn’t smile back though, because your cheeks still hurt from smiling so much with Sakura. You heaved the bags into your room and put on the pajamas. You walked out of your room and leaned on the couch. Kakashi looked up and put his book down.
Kakashi: What went on today?
You: I got bored in class, introduced myself to a girl named Sakura and a boy named Naruto. Sakura took me shopping and I saved 1079 ¥. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much around Sakura. I didn’t want to look like my normal non-smiley self and give her a bad impression, so that’s why I didn’t smile back. I’m tired of pretending for the day.
Kakashi: You shouldn’t pretend anyway. It builds up on your conscience.
You: I won’t tomorrow. I’ll be my normal self. I just wanted to make myself look friendly.
Kakashi: Then you’ll always have to act friendly around her.
You: No, I won’t. It’s highly unlikely I’ll be put onto the same team as her after gennin exam.
Kakashi: Well, you never know. Just don’t be fake.
You: I won’t. But now, I will go to bed. So I say goodnight.
Kakashi: Night, Ren.
You went to bed and dreamed of being strapped in a chair and having safety pins pinned into your cheeks, forcing a painful smile. Blood was dripping down onto your chest. People were coming around and waving and smiling at you. You were close to yelling in your sleep. When you woke up, you saw Kakashi staring in the doorway.
You: Don’t ask.
Kakashi: Wasn’t even thinking about it.
You: I’m up, though.
Kakashi: Good, I’ll leave you to your business.
You nodded and turned to the dresser with your new clothes in them. You chose a pair of dark blue sweats that go to your knees and a matching blue tank top. (Sorry, forgot to mention that you replaced your old blue ninja sandals with black ones.) You headed out and saw Kakashi eating a bowl of cereal.
You: Feeling simple this morning?
Kakashi: Didn’t feel like waiting.
You: Fine with me. I’ll have the same.
You poured out the cereal and ate, but didn’t really taste. You were spacing off, and it took you a while to realize you were chewing on milk.
Kakashi: Ren? Are you still with me?
You: oh, yeah. Sorry. I was spacing out. I’m not entirely awake yet.
Kakashi: It’s okay, I have those days too.
You then put your bowl in the sink and said good-bye to Kakashi and you went to the academy. You sat in the same spot and stared at the wall again. He was going over the different hand signs. Others were sketching the hand signs in their note pads and writing down the names while you were thinking of some of the jutsu they go with.
Iruka: Ren? Are you paying attention?
You: I-I’m sorry.
Iruka: Well, can you tell me what hand sign this is?
He formed his hands into the easiest sign to do- He put his bottom hand into a fist and the top hand covered it at an angle.
You: Dog.
He formed another; he interlaced all of his fingers and put his palms together.
You: Serpent.
Iruka: Smart, smart. “How about one we didn’t go over yet?”
This time he only interlaced six fingers and put one thumb on top of the other and made his pinkies point downward.
You: Dragon.
Iruka: Well, then. I now know you probably weren’t paying attention. You’re just smart.
You: I come from an advanced family.
Iruka: Back to class. Now, just because Ren knows the hand signs doesn’t technically give her the right to not pay attention, but this just proves that if I catch you not paying attention, you will be pop quizzed.
You rolled your eyes and stared at the bored and made it look like you were paying attention. About what seemed like eons later, the lunch bell rang and you stood up quietly and moved yourself out of the room.
You: “When will I learn something from this class?”
Just then you felt a poke on your shoulder, you turned around to see it was Naruto.
You: Hello, Naruto.
Naruto: Hiya, Ren! I didn’t know you were so smart, datebayo! How’d you learn that so early?!
You: First of all, we’re only seven inches apart, there’s no reason to yell. And second, I learned from my older sister.
Naruto: I thought you said you didn’t have a family?
You: They died tragically and I ran away before I could get hurt.
Naruto: Wow! You’re a lucky one, datebayo!
You: I can believe it. “Even if it’s not the truth.”
Naruto: Do you wanna sit by me at lunch?
You: Sure, why not.
You picked up some noodles from the cafeteria and by Naruto at a table where no one else sat. You slurped your noodles, while he did the same.
Naruto: No one’s ever sat by me at lunch. We’re getting stares.
You: Let them stare, then. They should know that you are a human being also worthy of having a friend. People here are so high and mighty.
Naruto: No, Konoha isn’t like that.
You: That’s how just about all of the people in my life appeared to be. Except for you, my guardian, and probably Sakura. I haven’t really met anyone else in this class.
Then the bell rang and you dumped the empty noodle carton and walked inside with Naruto.
Naruto: Hey, Ren, do you want to grab a bowl of ramen after class today?
You: Sure, I just need to be back home by seven thirty.
Naruto: Okay, datebayo!
Target practice was up again. You did just as well as yesterday. But in a flash, class was over. You found Naruto and started to walk with him to what you saw was the same ramen bar Kakashi took you to.
Naruto: Ichiraku’s where I go every day after school to have a bowl and relax.
You: My guardian took me to this place on my first night.
Naruto: They sound really nice.
You: He is. I’m still getting to know him, but he sounds like a really good person.
Naruto: I thought you and him moved here together?
You: No, he found me and I was injured so he took me in.
Naruto: Oh well. You ready to order?
You: Yeah. *turns attention to chef. * One chicken please?
Chef: Comin’ right up! And what’ll it be for you Naruto?
Naruto: You know, let’s start off with the usual.
You: Start off?
Naruto: Yeah. I have at least five bowls every time I come here, datebayo.
You: I can only eat one. I’m not a competitive eater.
Naruto: Neither am I!
You: You eat like one though!
You chuckled after he glared at you. You were done with your bowl way before he was done. You paid for yours but hung around with Naruto until he was done. He talked about everything that you needed to know to belong in the town.
Naruto: Not that I’ve ever belonged; I’ve always been an outcast.
You: Same here. So absolutely all of the girls our age and possibly younger are crazy over this show off?
Naruto: Pretty much. Just because he’s smart strong and cold. Girls can like goofballs like me, too! I can be pretty serious at times.
You: Just not any of the recent ones!
Naruto: Exactl- wait, hey! That wasn’t fair, datebayo!
You: *chuckles slightly. * But I got you! And once again, are you speaking through an imaginary mega phone? We are inside, sorta, and I am just right here.
Naruto: Stop makin’ fun of me, datebayo!
You: I’m not making fun of you. I’m just reminding you that I’m only a foot away from you. And I’m not deaf, hyperactive knucklehead.
Naruto: *Grins wildly. * Fine.
You: Hey what time is it?
Naruto: Uh, clock says it’s 7:25.
You: Ah crap! Naruto, I gotta run. I’ve got to make curfew before Kaka- my guardian sends out the ANBU to search for me!
Naruto: Alright, see you later.
You started to run past people who were going home, or meeting their friends. You wished that they would move out of the way and that home was right in front of you. But you zoned out and just focused. You were so focused; you ran over somebody and knocked them over.
You: *stumbles off of him. You recognize it to be the cold, emotionless Sasuke. * I’m so sorry! I was going so fast I didn’t see you there. Mind if I help you up?
Sasuke: Uh, sure?
You grabbed his hand and after you made sure he was up, you apologized again and ran off.
Sasuke: “That’s strange; she didn’t gawk over me like the rest would.”
You just barely made it home in time. One minute later and you would’ve been toast. Kakashi was waiting by the door.
Kakashi: Just in time. Where were you?
You: Hanging out with Naruto.
Everyone knew Naruto so you didn’t have to explain who it was.
Kakashi: You better keep a better eye on the time tomorrow.
You: I’m sorry Kakashi, I will.
Kakashi: Now, why are you scrapped up?
You: Scrapped up?
You looked at your palms and knees and saw that you had some scratch marks on yourself.
You: I kinda fell on my way here.
Kakashi: Did you hurt anyone else?
You: I don’t know. I knocked over Sasuke Uchiha, but I helped him up and made sure he was okay, and then I ran off.
Kakashi: You also have one on your cheek.
You: Oh, well that explains the stinging. I don’t exactly have perfect balance.
Kakashi: Well, thanks for the warning. I now know the cause of some of your later injuries.
You: No problem.
