Author's Note: I am warning you now that this is a NaruSaku FanFic. Leave this thread and don't bother reading if you are someone who cannot respect a simple short story or if you detest NaruSaku. Also if you highly praise your ship of NaruHina or SasuSaku, then this story is not for you. I am not a writer but simply a teenager who gets bored and decides to lay down her thoughts by writing. I was listening to "Drop it like it's hot" while writing this. Don't ask. Thank you.
II: Sakura's POV
The past few weeks have been hectic in Konoha's hospital after the destructive war. Every room was occupied with at least two noble shinobis who fought greatly in battle, severally wounded or dying. All medical assistants have been running around the busy building 24/7, assisting, healing, and comforting wailing family members who lost a love one.
After the first couple of days working and trying to save people's lives, I truly saw the hardship of a medical ninja's duty. The hospital became my home directly after the war. After a few days of medical aid and treatment for myself, I wasted no time to get back up on my feet and save those who were suffering.
"Sakura-chan, 205. The patient has arrived," a blonde medical assistant notified me, handing over a clipboard filled with the patient's information and medical reports of the previous check up.
I nodded, taking the clipboard and calmly walked to my next destination, Room 205.
It seemed as though I stood in front of Room 205's door for at least five minutes, my breathing low but sharp and my body stiff. The beating of my heart seemed to pound through my chest abnormally, beating loud enough for my ears to hear. This feeling, I hate it. Exhaling confidently, I turned the door handle and walked in, slowly closing it behind me.
"Sakura," a deep, familiar voice called for me.
I rose my head to face the patient, my emerald orbs captured into the depth of darkness.
"Don't stand in front of the door taking your precious time. I'm not what you call patient. You must think I don't notice you standing there every visit," the patient finished off coldly.
"Sorry, Sasuke-kun. Let's start quickly then," I said, flashing an insincere smile as I walked towards him.
After the war, Konoha's councils spent days deciding on Sasuke-kun's fate, whether they should execute him, sentence him in prison, or put him under house arrest. Though we had little time in our day, Naruto and I spent hours trying to convince the council and other elite shinobis to consider Sasuke-kun's life and the fate of the Uchiha clan. Executing him was not an option now that he is the last remaining Uchiha, but there were a great number of Shinobis who voted for Sasuke-kun's death, selfishly speaking of how the world of ninjas does not need the Uchiha clan. Naruto, especially, wouldn't have it. He and I stood our ground until the council decided on house arrest.
Naruto would volunteer to bring Sasuke-kun's groceries, hoping that every visit will help reconcile their relationship. The last standing Uchiha is not to step foot outside his Clan's estate and is to be guarded by elite ANBU Black Ops. The only time Sasuke-kun can leave the estate is when he visits the hospital for his eye check up.
"Sakura," Sasuke calmly said, pulling me out of my deep thoughts.
I glanced up from my clipboard, writing down the result of tonight's check up. I eyed him carefully as he stared at me blankly. The moon's light, that seeped through the window blinds, reflected on his handsome face. This man is, in no doubt, beautiful, but why is it that the way we look at each other is so… distant?
"Tell me. You don't love me anymore, do you?" Sasuke questioned in a monotoned voice, so straight foreword and directly to the point.
The question shocked me, leaving me speechless with my jaws dropped slightly. We stared each other down, my mind pondering with any kind of answer to give him. He waited and by the looks of his brow raising, he was loosing patience.
"Please don't ask such questions, Sasuke-kun. It's rude. I-I'm only here to do my job," I finally managed to say, my conscience angry for stuttering the last sentence.
"Oh? Don't tell me you've dropped your love for me the years I've been away?" The proud Uchiha snorted, a smirk slowly forming on his lips.
My jaws dropped completely as I stared at Sasuke dumbfounded, surprised by his cocky words. I must look stupid to him right now, I can see in his expression how amusing this is to him. Anger began to build inside me, my blood boiling to max temperature as my fingers curled into a hard fist, tightly gripping on the wooden clipboard and the pen. I can feel myself holding back as hard as I can to not land a blow on that flawless face of his.
"S-Sasuke-kun, I don't know what you're talking about. Today's check up was fine and your eye sight is slowly recovering. Please restrain yourself from using your shar-…" I said through gritted teeth, my fake smile gravely planted on my irritated face, before he cut me off.
"It's Naruto now, isn't it?" Sasuke questioned bluntly, staring me in the eyes, the darkness consuming every ounce of my being.
'What is this? Why is he?… How dare he?…' I thought in disbelief, both my arms dropping to my side as I stood frozen. My right fist loosened, dropping the broken pen on the cold hospital floor, breaking the silence between us.
"Don't deny yourself Sakura. It only makes sense that you now…" Sasuke continued with eyes closed before my right fist swiftly collided with his left cheek, forcing his face to fling to his right.
"Don't you dare speak as if you know my feelings. Coming from someone who had never accepted them, you're in no place to say such things so carelessly," I spoke in fury, my whole body trembling in outrage.
"Naruto has always protected me, made me smile, loved me. You could never do what he can, even now," I finished off coldly, sharply glaring at Sasuke's surprised expression.
Rubbing his throbbing cheek, he chuckled to himself as if remembering a funny joke. I cocked a brow, waiting for another arrogant comment. Instead, the Uchiha heir glanced up at me with his all knowing smirk and said in a faint voice, "It's good you know how you feel, Sakura."
My eyes widen in realization, my jaws slightly dropping once more as my anger diminished. This man never fails to surprise me.
"Sasuke-kun, you…" I struggled to finish off, blinking in confusion.
"Hn," Uchiha boy smirked, looking away from me to glance at the bright full moon through the window blinds. "Go. I'll see you next visit."
My lips trembled, my emerald eyes growing as they sparkled in the moonlight. The abnormal feeling that clutched on to my chest lifted, an honest smile appearing on my angelic face. Wasting no time, I turned away from my first love and sprinted out Room 205's door, feeling my heart race along with my feet.
"Sakura-cha-…?" the blonde medical assistant tried to greet me when I ran passed her, shoving the clipboard into her arms, leaving her with a confused expression.
Cold sweat trickled down my forehead as I ran out of the hospital, the refreshing night breeze brushing my luscious pink locks and cooling down the warmth of my cheeks. I have no idea where I'm headed, where my unstoppable legs are taking me, but I do know who I want to see.
I have to find him.
