Characters (in this chap!):

Rafaela, main character. Stepdaughter of Rick and Mary Starfield. Her real name is Ramika Mashiiro.
And originally from Japan. Rafaela suffers from a rarely seen illness which not only causes her to be physically exhausted, her own body refuses to listen to her. She is born dumb (not speak-able), half/color-blind.
Rick, stepfather of Rafaela and husband of the lovely Mary comes to face difficult times.
Mary, stepmother of Rafaela and wife of Rick, she comes to realize that their happiness will be over soon.
Doctor T, or also called Doc, suggests a regretful option to loose Rafaela.

Rafaela's story.

Not knowing her biological parents, let alone her own roots, Rafaela was found alone in a trash-bin nearby a river where her biological name was written on the back of her body along with a few Japanse words that said;

"Ramika Mashiiro.

Sadness and sorrow will cause the ones who show sympathy."

Yet two villagers from America, New York, came across the innocent infant when they coincidentally were on vacation, the baby was in critical condition and after they saved her life, regardless of what the mysterious written words said, they decided to adopt her and named her Rafaela.

The two heroes named;
Rick and Mary treated the young girl like their own. And filled was she! With joy and lots of love. They overwhelmed "their" daughter with happiness and enjoyed every second with Rafaela.

Until a few circumstances . . .

Rafaela couldn't speak nor do things on her own at the age of four. She was constantly seeking for help, but as most of the children seem to be stubborn and like that at her age, her stepparents did not worry as they thought it would be all normal once Rafaela fully growns up.

Abnormal?

But in all high holden hopes it didn't change, Rafaela was still not capable to do things without mourning about it, and she start showing more emotional feelings from time to time.

Just when things couldn't go any worse, Rafaela was confirmed to be half blind on her left eye and stated to be permanently colorblind. The doctors weren't sure if Rafaela would live long since she still couldn't say a word, let alone talk.
Rafaela couldn't even walk properly at the age of eight and from that day on her stepparents decided to agree on the worse . . .

(In the hospital of NY city.)

Doctor: Soon all of her reflexes will be gone. There is no hope for this little girl.
Rick: Then what decision should we make? Can't you figure something out with a few more of diagnoses, Doc?
Doctor: I'm afraid not, I suggest we end her life by putting her asleep. I'm sorry to say that so roughly, but we must not let her suffer any further.
Mary: Are you crazy? *cries* She is a human being! Not a monster! We can't do that. Ra- Rafaela is our only — daughter.. *sniff*
Rick: Have you then not heard him? We — We cannot let Rafaela suffer any longer! She is not healthy.

Doctor: I understand your feelings for this beautiful young girl, but I'm sure if Takisha could speak she wished her own death..

Rick turned to Mary, who frozenly stood behind him, and hold his crying wife closer into his arms.

Doctor: .. So she could eventually rest in peace and look over.. Both of you.
Mary: Hgn. Okay. *cries*
Rick: Agreed..

Mary freed herself from Rick's arms, desperately looking for Rafaela, who quietly sat in the corner of the room. She walk towards her, with swollen red eyes from the crying. .. Rafaela.. She said as hold tight into her arms.
.
.

Mama loves Rafaela very much!

Rick later step towards Rafaela and hold her hands tight and warm.
He looked sad but was trying to hide it with a smile. His eyelids were a little red. Rafaela could tell he had been crying too.
. . .

But while there was nothing wrong with Rafaela's understanding nor hearing she knew what her faith was going to be.

Rafaela wanted to talk and to speak like everyone else. She looked up to her parents who could walk properly and well. Rafaela wanted to smile like they could and hug back when they hugged her, laugh when they laughed and cry like how her stepfather cried before her.

But -

- Rafaela couldn't.

Rick lift the light feathered Rafaela up and carried her outside.
Let's meet tomorrow early here again, but please make sure she is still asleep!

The doctor quickly added while Rick and Mary slowly moved their way home.
Rick turned around while he had the little Rafaela lying with her head on his chest.
He nodded as he hold Rafaela closer.

Next chapter: Rafaela's faith!
