Before you ask questions like these:
Please do all a favor to read and understand the basic concept behind jutsus. Unfortunately i couldn't find any thread out there that systematically explains the concept behind jutsus.
Chakra
There is barely any chapter in naruto without reference to chakra as it's the fundamental concept to all jutsus and abilities. The naruto universe chakra is a mimic of the hindu chakra, and therefore derives some of its features from the original hindu concept. In the naruto universe, chakra is made up of physical energy (from the body) and spiritual energy (from the mind). The later begins to allow us comprehend why experiencing the death of a close colleague, something seemingly irrelevant to jutsus, leads to the activation of the mangekyo sharigan. Physical energy is referred to as Yang, and spiritual energy to as Yin [Chapter 17]. Therefore chakra, in a sense, can be referred to as YinYang.
Justus
There are three basic categories of jutsus plus an extra one: Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, and Fiunjutsu (sealing techniques). All jutsu can be categorized under any of these four. There are other subcategories like Senjutsu (which is simply nature-enhanced taijutsu, genjutsu, ninjutsu or fuinJutsu), kinjutsu (forbidden Jutsus), dojutsu (ocular jutsus).
Moulding the spiritual and physical energy (the two together is chakra) in certain ratios and controlling their flow in certain ways allows for infinite number of jutsus. To further understand the very concept behind jutsus, it necessary to understand the body chakra pathway.
The chakra pathway is a circulatory system that allows the distribution of chakra to all parts of the body, and it's riddled with chakra points. The popular 8 gates are the 8 main major chakra points. Neji once alleged to have closed 64 of Naruto's chakra points claiming that he won't be able to perform jutsus temporarily [Chapter 101]. Manipulating how chakra flows through the pathway--- the concentration, the rate, the energy balance, surface area, etc --- and chakra points is the basics of jutsus.
Hand seals aid the user to properly manipulate their chakra as desired. It is not an absolute requirement for performing jutsus.
Below in the spoiler is an analogy, and a brief info on hand seals:
Another Example:
The sharigan can copy ninjutsu and genjutsu; because it can see the entire "chakra mechanics" and more in full detail. But then it's left to the skill of the user to replicate the "chakra mechanics". The sharigan, however, cannot read the "chakra mechanics" of Kekkei Genkai Jutsus. This is why kakaski or sasuke cannot automatically copy any jutsu they see. knowing how to do something is very different from getting your body to do it.
By adding natural energy to your chakra (physical and spiritual energy) you get Senjutsu. Since senjutsu requires balancing 3 energies, it begins to sound like bullshit that Naruto mastered it in less than one month. But then, I don't think it's a plot hole since that further emphasizes the improvement Naruto achieved in his 3 year training with Jiriaya.
Transformation
We've analyzed the concept of jutsu solely from the perspective of chakra. But there's more to it. Why is the rasengan different from chidori even though both involve the basic step of moulding a significant amount of chakra around your hand? The concept of transformation explains it.
So far we've been introduced to only 2 types of chakra transformation:
Shape transformation:
This simply involves manipulating your chakra to take a desired shape. Reshaping the distribution of chakra in your feet to be able to walk on water is a form of shape manipulation. Moulding, rotating and simultaneously compressing chakra to form a rasengan is a prime example of shape manipulation of chakra.
Nature transformation:
This simply involves infusing your elemental affinity into your chakra to perform a jutsu.
Elemental Affinity
Summary
Breakdown of performing a jutsu:
• Chakra Manipulation--- Mould your Chakra (desired balance of yin/spiritual energy and yang physical energy). This is usually aided by hand seals but not an absolute requirement.
• Chakra Transformation---Then you apply a transformation. Shape transformation or nature transformation or both
• Complete Jutsu
Every jutsu can be broken down into these steps. and this basically answers a lot of questions about jutsus
Most information is cited in-text. The source for all the information is the manga and a few from the databooks
•So the sharigan can copy most jutsus, why hasn't Sasuke copied all jutsus he's seen?
•Do all jutsus need hand seals?
•Can the sharigan copy only Jutsus with hand seals?
•Why doesn't the resangan need a hand seal?
•Why haven't Kakashi used the Flying Thunder God Jutsu?
•Any other basic question about jutsus

Below in the spoiler is an analogy, and a brief info on hand seals:
The first day you attempted a Rubik's cube it took you hundreds of steps to solve more than one side of it. But after you played with it a thousand times, it begins to take only a few steps to completely solve it. Same goes with hand seals. This means theoretically an individual can reach a level of mastery where they won't need hand seals to perform jutsus. The Nidaime was close to that. He was very potent with water jutsus so much he could perform a water jutsu that required 44 hand seals with only one hand seal. Also Sasuke currently uses the chidori without any hand seal unlike the first time he used it [chapter 113]. Also not all jutsus require the aid of hand seals to manipulate chakra, like rasengan. Most likely because the chakra manipulation required can be pulled off without hand seals.
Some other examples that shed more light to the concept of chakra and jutsu is how walking up a vertical surface requires the user to release a specific amount of chakra at a proper rate and proper surface area [Chapter 18].

Another Example:
Deidara makes his explosive clay by fusing his chakra into the clay. Another person will not be able to perform this jutsu primarily because of two obstacles. They don't know exactly how Deidara manipulates his chakra flow through his chakra pathway and points, and the balance of his spiritual and physical energy. There are other secondary obstacles like elemental affinity and a possible kekkei genkai.

Nature transformation:
This simply involves infusing your elemental affinity into your chakra to perform a jutsu.
Elemental Affinity
This is what enables a nature transformation of chakra. Individuals are affined to certain elements.
We were first introduced to 5 elemental affinities--- Earth, Fire, Water, Lightening, and Wind ---that supposedly cover all ninjutsus. But then you begin to ask questions like, we know shadow clone is a ninjutsu but which element does it belong to? What about shikamaru's shadow technique? What did jiraiya mean when he said that the rinnegan enabled nagato to master all 6 nature transformation?
The answer is the 6th nature transformation, yinyang release, which covers a wide variety of jutsus including all genjutsus. This basically covers all non-elemental jutsus. Yin as already stated correlates with spiritual energy, and Yang correlates with Physical energy. So in a sense yinyang simply refers to chakra [chapter 316, 510]. So basically the yinyang affinity simply means an affinity to harness your yin and yang to perform a category of non-elemental jutsus. This is different from just manipulating chakra.
Example, you could say controlling shadows and making shadow clones are yinyang affinities of Shikamaru and Naruto, respectively; whereas the rasegan is simply a shape manipulation with no nature trasnformation.
An individual is usually born with an innate affinity for usually one element. Orochimaru used only wind; the rest of his tech might be snake-affined yinyang release. Kakashi is only innately affined to lightening, but has trained himself to use water and earth, making it 3 elements in his arsenal. 3 elements seem to be the standard expectation [chapter 316]. However, Kakazu had access to 5 elements, and Nagato had access to all 6 nature transformations (5 elements and yingyang release) [chapter 375].
Kakashi also inferred in his fight with Kakazu that innate elements are usually stronger than secondary elements [chapter 334]. Basically if two fighters of same skill use lightening, the person with the innate lightening element is likely to win.
