Chakra Theory II: Nature of the Energies
Hello again,
I had almost forgotten to pick up where I had left off so this basically continuation of Chakra Theory: Function of the Energies. You might actually need to read that in order to understand some of this so I advise it.
Now in the first part of this theory I had explained what, why and how I think of spiritual energy. I intend to continue with that.
The Pure and the Impure Worlds
Right at the end of the first theory I went on to mention that when a shinobi dies, the spiritual energy leaves the body and the physical energy disappears as the body breaks down. The spiritual energy travels to the “Pure World” as it has been termed. This made me think and I some time ago came to the conclusion that this Pure and Impure world may just be parallel but that’s not even important now so I won’t discuss it yet. More importantly, it would seem that spiritual energy has an incredible affinity for the pure world; in fact it would be more accurate to say that spiritual energy on its own can only exist freely in the pure world. This does not mean that spiritual energy cannot be lured into the impure world but even when it is; it cannot interact with anything except physical energy but I will get to that. First of all why is the Pure World called such? “Pure’’, that’s a relatively strong word, what’s the difference between that world and this one? I believe strongly that it is called thus because it is unchanging and incorruptible, in the Pure World nothing ever changes, even if time exists here it has no meaning like it does in the impure world, entities will always keep their form etc. If a world exists where nothing changes, is it not fair to say that all entities within it are free of the hand of age? That their forms will never distort, evolve nor devolve? Let’s take a serious look at it. When Kakashi died at the hands of Pein, his spiritual form left his physical body and the Impure World to a place where he encountered his father Sakumo. Sakumo had not changed at all since the time when he committed suicide but Kakashi had grown significantly since then. This proof is also backed by the condition of the Edo Tensei resurrected ninjas. Those summoned by ET are all in the last condition they were in at their time of death. Those that died old return looking old like Chiyo. Those that died young like Kimimaro and Yaguura were resurrected young. Even Nagato who was physically impaired for some years came back as such. This is consistent with the spiritual energy being a person’s identity, and carrying all their body’s experiences throughout their life and also with the Pure World being incorruptible as some of these shinobi were only just summoned after many years. Thus, spiritual energy which is at least near constant can only interact with the impure world through the use of physical energy.
This lays the foundations for the rest of the theory.
Susano’o and the Shinigami
Now readers are well aware that other spiritual entities exist in the Narutoverse that are not human in nature. Let us not even bother with their origins as these are almost certain not to be explained but that doesn’t matter because at least for now, they are unimportant. What I have come to think is that these spiritual entities exist within the Pure World but are unable to interact with the Impure world. Of course I speak of Susano’o and the Shinigami with the craziest fuuinjutsu in the history of history. They have been described as gods by those that have witnessed them and I think that these two entities are virtually the same type of spiritual entity. In order for these entities to interact with the impure they must follow the rule of creation that the Rikudou Sennin himself adhered to. Remember that with his spiritual energy he would give something form. This form would still be nothing but a spiritual construct e.g. the abstract concept of fire. He would then breathe life into it with his physical energy and voila! You got yourself a Katon. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
Physical Energy provides the Force.
Spiritual Energy provides the Function.
This is the very basis for the formation of Chakra.
So what does this have to do with Shinigami and Susano’o? They’re both spiritual entities with incorporeal forms; the only thing they require is the physical energy/life-force in order to truly interact with the impure world. For this they both require mediums. The mediums are living shinobi that can generate the necessary physical energy; the only difference is in the method. While Susano’o seems to be tied to the Uchiha ancestry, the Shinigami’s actual allegiance isn’t known and its malevolent behaviour even towards the host seems to indicate that it was actually discovered by someone as opposed to it being tied to any clan.
Space/Time Jutsu
Ah, the ages old topic of Space/Time Justu. It’s been one of the most debated topics of all time. It’s always worth a try to look at it.
Going back to the topic of the Pure and Impure world above, if the Pure World is Spiritual and the Impure World is Physical and if spiritual elements are capable of passing through the physical world even without interacting with it, wouldn’t some intelligent shinobi figure out a way of doing this the other way temporarily. Assuming this scenario occurred and a shinobi changed location before returning to the impure world, what then of the nature of the Pure World? I had said that time possibly had no meaning there did I not? If so then when an individual returns no time would have passed and the movement could be considered instantaneous, yes no? Just consider it something to think about. This could really explain most if not all S/T jutsu. The method of traversal could be the seal as in Minato’s case or even summons. The seals could be markers for those that have left the Impure World, or even access points to return which would give someone in the Impure World with no skill in S/T jutsu the impression of instant relocation. Madara, didn’t even seem to need seals to do so but that would be due to his powerful quality chakra.
Everything to do with S/T in terms of jutsu is based almost purely on relocation, but there’s no such thing as relocation without an intermediate plane of traversal, this is truth.
This, I believe is the key to Madara’s intangibility. A simple switching of planes and as a result not being able to interact with the current plane until he switches back when he pleases.
Spiritual Weapons
Orochimaru sought Totsuka for ages and even Zetsu said he looked for it but it never had a physical form. Here everybody agrees that this and Yata mirror are spiritual weapons, I’ll leave that alone. This concept should also apply to the Rikudou Sennin’s treasures as well, not so? The only difference is that the RS bound these spiritual weapons to physical objects. With only spiritual energy bound to them these treasures only possess the potential for function, however, the moment a living creature wields them they rapidly consume the user’s physical energy and are capable of great things. This is why only those with high chakra should even bother touching them. I’m actually fairly impressed with Darui. He used a couple of the weapons for only a single use and so it may not be Sasuke level drainage at the hands of Susano’o but it’s commendable nonetheless for a supporting character.

Shingami – Sandaime stated that the Shinigami can only be seen once the user forms a contract with it. It’s not important what the Shinigami does but the method for which it interacts with the real world. It drains the user completely of life-force/physical energy. That malevolent nature doesn’t appear to indicate that this guy actually wants to leave but rather that he can’t stay because his host dies.
Susano’o – I’ll focus more on Sasuke’s Susano’o as we’ve watched him develop it. Susano’o, the god of war, is also an entity similar to the Shinigami but seems to be under a greater degree of control, acting exactly the way the Uchiha controlling it intends. It, being a powerful spiritual entity drains life-force to an incredible degree as well, the difference being that the Uchiha using it can dispel it any time and if the consumption is life threatening they may not even be able to maintain it without incredible willpower which Sasuke and Itachi have both displayed, the latter virtually killing himself through this method. When discussion pertains to development of Sasuke’s Susano’o starting at the Kage summit there seems to be a mistake regarding its formation. Susano’o was not developing but Sasuke’s access to Susano’o is what improved. The full Susano’o was already present during that time and was only limited by the degree to which Sasuke could manifest it. Starting with the skeleton as the foundation, the muscle and then the armour, Sasuke had to gradually learn to dedicate more energy to the form to bring its full potential forward. Think of it this way, Sasuke is a very fast learner. By the time he got to Danzou he had gotten the hang of manifesting certain portions of Susano’o without having to waste his energy giving the entire thing tangibility. When he grabbed Danzou, the entire Susano’o was present but only the shoulder to hand portion was interacting (and visible) with the environment. Susano’o is already a complete spiritual construct that Sasuke can physically manifest to varying degrees by adding his physical energy in order to make it a chakra construct. SASUKE IS NOT A GREEN LANTERN! LOL! Also, spiritual weapons aside, Susano’o is invincible. Whoa B4 shit-storm!!! Invincible does not mean impenetrable! What I mean is that even when the chakra construct is damaged or obliterated, the spiritual form remains as a template that can be reformed as long as Sasuke has enough energy to do so, or isn’t killed before then. That means anyone that can execute consecutive powerful attacks with a very short time span can break Susano’os physical structure before it reconstructs itself. Raikage initially qualified for this method against the initial stages but Sasuke’s use of Amaterasu forced him to back off as his attacks where physical.
