Hey, lately there have been alot of people asking/commenting on the Nature transformations ect, so I've decided to do a bit of research and save you all the time/effort, here you go 
There are five basic types into which the nature of chakra can be transformed, called the Five Elements Nature Transformations. These five types are also called elements and are not only the origin of the names of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, but also the foundation of all elemental ninjutsu. The five basic natures are all connected to each other in a circle, each being weaker than one and stronger than another.
In general, every person has chakra that has an affinity towards one of these types, a characteristic that seems to be genetic, since whole clans sometimes share the same affinity. Most members of the Uchiha clan, for example, had an affinity towards the Fire nature.
To find out what affinity someone has, pieces of paper made from a special type of tree (that are grown and fed with chakra) are used that react to even the slightest hint of chakra in any of a number of ways, depending on the nature latent in the chakra~
The chakra paper reactions are as follows:
Fire: the paper will ignite and turn to ash.
Wind: the paper will split in two.
Lightning: the paper will wrinkle.
Earth: the paper will turn to dirt and crumble away.
Water: the paper will become wet/damp.
Raiton = Mid/high offensive, mid/high defensive. ( all ranges ) Lightning is strong against earth because it can easily travel through and break the ground apart but weak against wind because it is a natural electrical insulator.
Futon = High Offensive, Low/mid defensive. ( Long range mainly, less effective at short range ) Wind is strong against lightning because it is a natural electrical insulator but weak against fire because the flames are fuelled by air.
Suiton = Mid offensive / High defensive ( Very versatile ) Water is strong against fire because it naturally extinguishes the flames (though a sufficiently powerful fire technique can cause evaporation) but is weak against earth because earth structures can dissipate the force of water rendering the technique ineffective.
Katon = Very high offensive / med~High defensive ( Sasuke uses this very well for both ) Fire is strong against wind because the air feeds the flames but weak against water because it cools and smothers them.
Doton = Medium offensive / High defensive ( Mainly used for defensive purposes, but can be used for offensive ) Earth is strong against water because earth naturally contains water or absorbs water to the point when it becomes muddy then dries up but weak against lightning because it can easily travel through and break the ground apart.

Besides the five basic nature types, there are several more advanced types. By initiating more than one basic chakra nature transformation simultaneously, one can create a completely new nature of chakra with unique properties. Doing this requires a special ability and such abilities are rarely seen outside a kekkei genkai or kekkei tōta. In the anime, it is stated that those with the ability to utilise advanced natures possess an affinity for the chakra natures they must simultaneously activate.
So far, Twelve advanced natures have been shown, these include.
Ice -Haku used this by combining Water/wind release.
Wood-( more often referred too as Mokuton ) Hashirama/Danzo/Yamato/Madara/zetsu and Obito use this style
Lava Son Goku and its jinchūriki Roshi, as well as Mei, Kurotsuchi and Dodai use this by combining Fire and earth release.
Crystal( ANIME ONLY, NON CANNON ) Guren used this, it was never specified how.( probably with earth as Kakashi's lightning blade seemed effective against it.
Blaze( Enton ) Sasuke Uchiha uses this in conjunction with Amaterasu. (Requires Fire release and probably Sharingan)
Storm Darui uses storm release by combining Water and Lighting release.
Boil used by Mei, is created by simultaneously combining the Water and Fire natures.
Dust used by Ōnoki and Mu, is created by simultaneously combining the Fire, Earth and Wind natures. this is a Kekki tota
Explosion used by Gari and Deidara, used through a Kekki genkai.
Magnetism used by Toroi, the Third and Fourth Kazekage, this is also used through a Kekki genkai.
Scorching heat used by Pakura ( dat ass ) probably used with Fire/wind release.
UNKNOWN release used by Obito in his 10 tails state ( Juubito ) this appears too be a mixture of Water/Earth/Wind/Yin/Yang chakra, not much is known about this.
Aside from the five basic types of nature transformation, there is also a sixth type: the Yin , the basis of imagination and spiritual energy, used to perform Yin Release, and the Yang , the basis of vitality and physical energy, used to perform Yang Release. Together, they are used to perform Yin–Yang Release. Yamato implied that the Yin and Yang are the source of non-elemental techniques such as the Shadow Imitation Technique, Multi-Size Technique, medical ninjutsu, genjutsu, etc.
