Chakra Affinity

Not sure if this was ever addressed, but since everyone in NV technically has chakra can anyone become a ninja if they wanted?

I ask because it seems that you have to have a natural talent for using chakra as opposed to it just be accessible to anyone

Yes, everyone has chakra in them, but those who are not shinobi probably have so little that they would never use it effectively without risk of dying.

@necromancer It's more likely that it's the ability to mold chakra(either you have it or you don't). your explanation doesn't justify Lee's case...not saying I'm right, it just seems more likely than your take

If I had to guess, I'd say they need to train specifically to use chakra. Civilians just choose not to. Besides, the villages are supposed to be hidden, so maybe civilians outside of them don't even fully know how to train to use chakra.

Maybe it's partly genetic as well. Just like KKG to specific clans, maybe attunement to chakra usage is also inherited, just between all ninja.

Edit: by "they" I mean non-ninja people of NV. I don't think it would make sense for them to not have the ability to use chakra that they have "just because".

I edited my post to be a bit more specific (it's obvious that chakra usage comes more naturally to ninja).

If you're referring to the fact that Sakura's parents appear to be non-ninja, then she doesn't really debunk that theory. Genetics doesn't say you'll exhibit the same traits as your parents, but that the traits you have are inherited from their genes.

Meaning, if somewhere in the lineages of Sakura's parents are shinobi, then she will inherit from her parents the genes that make for people able to mold chakra.

It's the same way that two short parents can have a tall child. While they don't exhibit the trait of tall-ness, they have the genes for that trait that they passed onto their child.

I'm leaning more towards this also. I never understood what the "hidden" in the hidden villiages meant, but maybe it's to hide the secret of how to mold chakra.

After all, Indra had to teach ppl how to mold it in the first place so maybe it's similar to the way a muscle has to be worked out to grow, so does chakra in a different sense

Think of Shinobi as Professional athletes:

Some people are born naturally gifted

Some can train to achieve it

Some are incapable (Lack of training or desire)

Some are genetically incapable

I think so but not everyone lives in a village with a ninja system so some people never unlock or reach their full potential because their shinobi skills aren't encouraged... we saw this with orochimaru who recognized teh ninja potential of "normal" people like Zaku. I think teh potential to become a ninja exists in everyone but it has to be nurtured in order for teh talent to bloom. People's living situations impact on that! Neji was right about fate...

If you look at KGGs and Incarnate abilities it fits perfectly.

Naturally gifted (Genius, OP KKG, Special Clan)
Some can train to achieve it (Gai, Lee, Hiruzen, Minato etc)
Some are incapable (People born outside of villages or have no interest in becoming shinobi. Ramen Guy
Some are genetically incapable (Don't have the will to mold chakra or medical reasons)
