In the past we saw all of the bijuu confirm naruto as the one that the sage was talking about. They gave naruto individuality by making us believe he was the sages reincarnation and that he would surpass even the sage himself. In the recent chapter we learned that naruto is not the reincarnate of the sage but of the younger son. This has taken away narutos individuality in my opinion especially because he hasn't been the only one to be chosen to be the reincarnation of ashura. Will naruto have to eat the fruit to surpass the sage? Idk what to expect now to be honest. Does anyone else feel this way?

Are you kidding?

You don't think being the reincarnation of one of the most powerful shinobi to have ever lived is special? :|

The one thing I want to understand is if Obito was mistaken about the Elder Son's eyes, or how they developed from the Sharingan into that Rinnegan lookalike.

I was thinking the same thing.. Hagoromo said that he must entrust something to him... then the story started.. with the fruit and ended with his sons. I think that "thing" that will be entrust to Naruto is the fruit

you're missing the point, you and lots of readers.

Naruto's power is FRIENDS, the power of friendship if you will. if naruto eats the fruit, it takes away the whole concept of Naruto being the successor

I don't think it matters who reincarnation he is, just whether if he surpasses the sage or not.

Pretty much this.

It's his one power that always comes up trumps, eventually.

I feel the opposite. The younger son was supposed to be the successor, but he (or all the reincarnations?) failed once it got to the bond with their opposite. The Sage's bonds were apparently not important to this story.

Part 1 and most of part 2 is about Naruto's bond to Sasuke and why it is important to him. If he was the Sage's reincarnation, then it would be awkward just throwing this to the side and being like "Sorry Sasuke, Naruto is the guy."

Besides being the Younger Son is a way cooler thing. What gives Naruto his individuality is that the bond with his "brother" figure was never broken, and if he keeps it together, then essentially they surpass the Sage by ending wars between humans. Naruto has the chance to do something new by essentially fixing a thousand year old broken bond. That sounds like classic Naruto to me.

If he was the representation of the Sage then what? He beats the big bad, does what the Sage did and brings peace until he dies and decides Gaara should take over? Nah, Naruto's cooler than that, he's going to end a thousand year old feud by kicking it with his bro =D

It's not that. I honestly thought naruto was the reincarnation of the sage but the fact that naruto is the reincarnation of ashura just makes it less special. Because there have been more to be that reincarnate as well. In my opinion it takes away from narutos individuality in the story.

The answer is Naruto isn't reincarnation of Sage of Six Paths, but he is someone who will surpass him.

the question is is there a need to surpass him

In my opinion he does because I feel like it would just keep adding in to continuous cycle that naruto wants to break. UNLESS Kishimotos objective is to try to show us that ultimately love and hate is an on going cycle that can't be broken. We'll have to wait an see tho.

ashura believed that cooperation and getting help from others is the real power , which inspired the sage to split up juubi into 1-9 tails .
who so6p was talking about was a person similar to ashura-who gains power that comes from cooperation , and this person will guide the bijuus to show real power . since naruto shows a similar trait , the bijuus agree that naruto is the one . naruto is also the reincarnation of ashura . it fits

Yes, there is Sage wasn't able to find the true peace, he tried to achieve that, but the world ended up in chaos giving rise to Madara.
So, yes Naruto needs to surpass sage in ideology department. Back to powerscale, then I think yes he needs to, because he has to find answer to Juubi's hatred.u.u

Yeah I agree with you on the fact that his power does come from friendship in a way. But I just feel like naruto has to become the strongest. Idk why but that's just how I feel. Either he becomes the strongest or him and sasuke become equals and unite. Otherwise it'll just keep being a cycle of hatred that naruto wants to end.

That's actually an interesting way to think about it. I do agree with you on him and sasuke uniting, in my previous comment I said that's one of the only ways I feel the cycle will be broken.

it's actually better this way. before when we thought he was the sages reincarnation his goal and outcome would have been around the same as what the sage did. now that we know that he is th younger son, that changes things. first thing is, it makes sasuke relavent to the overall story in a big way. whether sasuke is actually Idra or not, most likely he is, this gives naruto the chance to finally get his brother figure to cooperate with him. assuming that this has happened many times before but failed, or the others never had the chance to do it, this could be it. this could end the fued that started everything. it probably would have ended anyways as the two clans are no more, but still. this way they can finally bring true peace to the world like they were suppose to, through cooperation.

Personally, I never thought Naruto to be the Sage's reincarnation because it would ruin the Naruto and Sasuke parallelism that Kishimoto has always established since the beginning of the manga. It would even make Naruto too powerful for his fight against Sasuke, which we all know is going to take place. Naruto and Sasuke have been treated as equals right from the very beginning like Yin and Yang, Kishi himself said that. Logical thinking will never allow you to believe Naruto being the Sage's reincarnation.
