I don't think that's referring to Itachi's sickness, but rather that the time is ripe for their battle (Itachi's and Sasuke's) and Itachi has prepared himself for it.

To all those thinking Susanoo caused his disease, it was not, Itachi was taking drugs to prolong his life. Those drugs are what caused the disease. That is atleast, the primary cause for pulmonary embolism.

I think the disease Itachi had was from his time in ROOT. If you remember Sai's brother/lover had a very similar disease and died in very similar circumstances as far as the way he succumbed to it. I think it was an insurance policy constructed by Danzo or maybe a rare illness that is caused by Orochimaru's experiments. Now that I think about it Kimimaro had a disease that was similar that was caused by Orochimaru's experiments on his body, who knows. But it wasn't because of Susano'o , Susano'o speeds up the blindness though.

that could well be true, itachi has less poweerful chakra and stamina than madara and sasuke, which could explain why they didn't get it.#on the other hand, i've always though it might be orochimaru at theroot of these illnesses. a slow acting venom wouldbe just his thing, and he has connections with itachi,kimimaro, and root. maybe he experimented on sai'sbro, used it when defeated by itachi, and kabuto then implemented it on kimimaro as a way to make sure he wouldnt be oro's vessel, as he wanted to be that himself.
