So this thread is about which one you prefer the best. Cartoons or animes. I'm going to be using old cartoons.

The 3 categories that you should post about are:

- Animation: Which one you like?
- storylines : which one has the best?
- characters: cartoon characters or anime characters?

I will just post the cartoon and anime pics, and hopefully you know them, and can judge them by just that. or if you need to just search em up on google.

Anime on all three counts. The animation is cleaner and better than Western cartoons (Avatar being the only exception). The story lines are typically nonexistent in Western cartoons, as they are built on episode-by-episode basis with no clear plot initially. Anime usually are strongly plot-driven, making the events more exciting. As for characters, well no plot is without a character, and again since most Western cartoons have no definitive plot the characters have no real room for growth. Thus I still prefer Anime, for if they have a plot then they can exploit character weaknesses, strengths and character arcs. Thus better characters.

Avatar is an american made cartoon.... It also has comics... o_O. Hence why its animation is more western than anime.

-Samurai Jack
- Powerpuff girls
- Justice league
- Superman/Batman animated series
- Marvels : The Avengers
- Spiderman the animated series

list keeps going on about cartoons with plots mate. I simply didn't put the ones with a fixed plot up there. lol.

For the record since I see a lot of people getting it wrong, Avatar is an American produced cartoon done in the Anime art style and is created in studios located in South Korea who work with Japanese studios on anime regularly, so aside from having creators in USA it is an anime. On to the next note, Anime and Western Cartoons are all Cartoons, the same as rock and jazz and blues are all music. This anime vs cartoon nonsense needs to end, Anime are cartoons and Manga are comics, the name is dependent on the point of origin that is all. Look at the Boondocks cartoon, American made, creator from Maryland but drawn in a Korean studio in Japanese art styles. The lines are being blended people, it's not so much East vs West anymore.

OT: As for which is better, well, neither. Each style have exceptional works that can draw them praise while they both have terrible abominations that can make people never watch any other. DC has been putting out some of the best animated works lately

Anime, easily. Cartoons are almost completely episodic (no real plot) and most of them are just trying to get laughs. Anime have depth, well-defined characters, and highly engaging plots. Plus, there's just no beating the Japanese in animation.

- Has comics

- produced with "cartoon" animations. Simply look at the original avatar.

- Also, it isn't non-sense. They are different varieties. Its like Hollywood vs Bollywood, they are movies.. however they are different. Hence why they are put against each other.

Comics came after the show(if we're talking about Avatar, Boondocks comics came first). and the art style is absolutely more Asian influenced than American. Just think about it for a second do avatar characters look more like DBZ/Naruto/etc. or Scooby Doo/Justice League? They have big eyes tiny noses they look like they'd be from an anime more so than a western cartoon.

About the nonsense, people act like it's wrong or illegal or a sin to call manga a comic or an anime a cartoon, those are the people I was talking to.

I like cartoons more. I'm more into American humor and a lot of cartoons I like are superhero related ones. Plus, Avatar/LOK is my favorite fictional thing ever, so...Then add on some classics like Scooby Doo, Ed Edd n Eddy, with some Jimmy Neutron and Danny Phantom and Kim Possible...I'm all good. I like to think of it all as animation/cartoons, but I like more "cartoons" than "animes." Just not an anime guy really. Animes, some, look beautiful, but cartoons look great too. Some for characters and plot. All depends on what show you watch.

Anyways, cartoons.

Look at that nose and those eyes, those are typical anime characteristics.

I'll give you that Korra has more American styled characters like Tenzin

But the original series had almost no characters look like that.

Cartoons for replay value. I could watch an episode of justice League or Dexter's lab many times for example, before I'm sick of it but I'd much rather not ever see an episode of Naruto more than twice.
