Caribou was trying to gain favor with someone back on Fishman Island. Who do you think it may be?

Probably Doflamingo or a Tenryuubito. He was kidnapping mermaids and they're the only two known to do slave trading.

"Wet haired Carribou" , 210 million beri pretty interesting character. He knows the name of Poseidon and because of the cover story where he is the main character, he could possibly spill the beans to Kaidou himself that Shirahoshi = Ancient Weapon!

I don't remember if it was mentioned he had a boss(correct me if I am wrong) but since he is a pirate who has been on Sabody and probably the auction house too, he knew selling the mermaids would get him loads of money. He was doing it all for the money.
EDIT - Yes he most likely will tell Kaido about Shirahoshi.
