When Caribou in fishmand island stole all the treasure , he eventually received word that his crew survived and made it to port, as well as overhearing about the Ancient Weapon Poseidon being Shirahoshi:
He tried kidnapping her but was captured by Jinbe. Jinbe takes him into a coated boat up to the surface and eventually turns him over to G-5 Marine Commodore Yarisugi.

If you remember Caribou's nature he was sneaky, and wanted to align with the fake straw hats because he thought they were the real deal and wanted ''protection'' and a foothold in the new world.
Who is to say he landed their by accident, was threatened and then gave information on Poseidon for his life. Explained how luffy and co messed him up.
