So I've been watching one piece over to get a better understanding and I noticed kakuza i think his name is talking to drake as if he knew him so was drake a former marine and what do you think his reason for leaving was

Well Kizaru did theorize that he probably wanted to see what the other side was like.

However he does have some history with Kaidou and maybe being a Marine wouldn't allow him the freedom to go after him.

And Drake was a former marine rear admiral.

In Trafalgar's flashback of the events that occurred at Minion Island in North Blue, the pirate crew who had the Ope Ope no Mi had a child working for them which they bullied. The child was not caught into DD's Birdcage and when he saw the carnage, he fled till the nearby marines found him and took care of him. This child was nearly certain X-Drake and the captain of the pirate crew that bullied him, was probably his father based on his looks.
