Why wasn't Capitan Yamamoto called kenpachi? He even said in 2000 years there hasn't been a stronger shinigami than him. So because he is captian-commander does that exempt him from the title?

Zaraki > Yamamoto.

Zaraki survived being in space.

I remember that somewhere was mentioned that Kenpachi is not just title given to strongest shinigami, it's also title given to shinigami that slay most shinigamis/souls. In barbarian way of life, killing most people would also mean being the strongest. To me it has more sense.

Kenpachi is a title given to a good swordman that rely only on his built strength for battle, captain Yam to me is a chef, he likes everything crisped xD

Because Captain Yamamoto didn't kill any Zaraki's yet?
As I can recall, you need to kill the previous Zaraki before you gain the title yourself. Only exception would be the second Zaraki, which didn't kill Captain Unohana.

^ this is one way to look at it.

OT:

the title of kenpachi was never truly passed until recently. the true kenpachi from his generation was still alive. he wasn't going to challenge her and kill her, losing a crucial ally in the process. it was also said that he "bought" his power. so unohana may have actually been stronger than him during the creation of the G-13, well in raw power anyway.
