Are you asking if we can live without people in general or just people in the US? Because your title implies general, but your rant implies just America.
As far as the American society stuff, I used to feel the same way you did but I stopped because I felt I was being childish. There's nothing wrong with setting the bar high. Aim for the stars and you might land in the clouds. Showing the absolute best doesn't mean that you are expected to reach that or you're a total failure. It's meant to serve as motivation to do your best. That's the American dream.
No one is saying you have to be a millionaire, buy a luxury car, be as smart as a rocket scientist or full of charisma. But you should always strive to have more money than you need for emergencies purposes (you don't want to be on a fixed income and life throws you a hurdle that calls for more than what you have to spare), you should want to drive a safe and reliable as opposed to some beat up used junk that you'll have to fix all the time, try to learn as much as you can as to be as versatile as possible (never know what knowledge will come in handy one day), and since there are billions of people in the world, some people skills and self confidence wouldn't kill you.
That's what the American Dream is to me. It's not about having the best. It's about doing the best you can, working hard to achieve your full potential, and if you do that, you'll come out on top. Maybe not the very top, but you'll be able to take care of yourself and your family for a long time and do so comfortably. Maybe you should try looking at America in a different way
**Edit** If this sounded rude forgive me. It wasn't meant to. I tend to be a straight shooter and sometimes what I say might on the internet might seem offensive
