Can someone help me understand how kotoametsukami was used in when reanimated Itachi used it during his fight with naruto and bee.

From what I know you have to be within someones field of vision, but apparently he used it on Kabuto....i think.

He used it on himself. It was supposed to activate on Sasuke if Naruto saw Itachi's sharingan on him but instead it was used on Itachi himself.

It still doesn't make sense to me though because all KA does is change your mind and I don't see how Kabuto loses control due to that.

Itachi used KA on himself, rewriting the charm tag placed on him by Kabuto, who uses charm tags to bind souls to Edo Tensei. Kabuto control Edo Tensei with those tags via chakra. In order to remove the "command" set by KA, Kabuto had to remove Itachi's charm tag manually and replace it.
