Share the similarities and celebrate the differences. You can acknowledge someone's opinion, but don't stop there. Share your views with each other. That way there can be a clear line of understanding and what values you can cross or not trespass. I don't mind if people drink because it's not my business. And I don't like the atmosphere of pubs. So when I tell other uni students that, some are surprised but most we'll make a compromise to have lunch somewhere else and then they go get their drinks afterwards out of respect and wanting to share one another's company.
