First off, this would imply the weapons existed before his time. Long before. Also, he is the son of kaguya, so that means, since the weapons are a legend to him, they are older than her as well, meaning that they predate kaguya. This means that it also predates the progenitor of chakra (Juubi) and that the only entity that posses it was the shinju.

So if this really was a legend to him, how old are these weapons, and where did they come from?
What kind of supernatural legendary weapons are so old that they predate the progenitor of chakra and the goddess of shinobi?

In all honesty, I think it's a plot hole. It might just show how Black Zetsu was originally meant to be Madara's will and that Kishi thought of him being Kaguya's son later on...or Itachi's practically a God.
