Can the SO6P open the Eight Gates?

I don't know if there's a thread like this, but...

It's said that the SO6P, ages and ages ago (in Narutoverse, of course xd) was the first person to discover the truth about chakra and mastering it.
But now I wonder, is he able to open the Eight Gates too? The Eight Gates are points of the Chakra System, am I wrong? So, he, mastering chakra, was able too to open the Eight Gates?

What's your thoughts?

Plausible...maybe if it even existed during his time. Like Minato with rasengan. Minato "discovered" Rasengan, but does that mean he knew how to use Rasenshuriken? The answer is no of course; because Naruto made that jutsu, but it is derived from Rasengan.

If the Sage was the first person to discover the truth about chakra and mastering it, OF COURSE HE KNEW how to open gates. He had to have known the chakra circulatory system, he had rinnegan eyes.
