Because I just opened my e-mail spam and I found the worst spam ever,

"Mai how you been? I hope everything is okay now. I've got some awesome news for you.

The Government is giving out money in your State for college.

The amount is $5,730* and its given to you in a check or you can have it direct deposited.

You can use this money for online courses.

It only takes about a minute to check if you qualify.

Have a good one,
Matt

I'm not a US citizen and you know what's the worst thing ever about that spam,it clicked a nerve out there.

I apply for too much online courses 'coursera,edx,udacity..etc'
most of them are free, but it's just my hobby,I don't do it to get a job,I already have a career -__-

and second I've been searching the internet for ways to earn money online, but not because I need it,I just wanted to do something useful in my free time and my parents won't allow a part-time job,so it's a hobby too.

I don't know if this is a coincidence,I'm totally creeeeeeeeeeeeped.

I think it's a coincidence since you're not US resident.

Btw, I like your name.

I don't know it just felt so creepy, and in another e-mail they use another link and another context to say that US is giving grants in my state and used the name of my real state which is not american

thanks :D

On some browsers and a lot of phones there is a setting where u call allow or reject your net activity being tracked

I know Microsoft Edge browser has that option

Targeted ads are nothing new. Simplest example is all those single women wanting to meet up, and coincidentally they all happen to live in my city. If you've used that email address to sign up for various "ways to earn money online" then it isn't a stretch to link the two.

Not just possible it's pretty much a fact that companies track your net activity if u don't turn the setting off. Apparently they use it for marketing purposes

I don't think it's that creepy even if you don't apply to those things or registered in sites there's many ways for them to find email addresses but it won't hurt been little cautious .

Online activity can be tracked to a certain extent via cookies and whatnot. This is why when you search for somethin long enough then after a while you get ads on youtube or facebook about relative stuff :hmm:

@ Bold: you left your email and they used it for sending spam advertisement. Your email, your address, your phone number- basically any kind of contact address is sure to attract some advertising. Often they send messages that suit the searches you made , some are random.

You can make a different email ID for such random applications and not give your contact details to every random site if you want to avoid it. Or just trash them if you are not interested.

You can set your browser such that these sites cannot track you but then many won't open at all.

Just ignore it. There's no reason to get worked up over spam. :p
