The data that I have gathered in my studies of the Einstein field equations indicates that the time-time component of the stress-energy-momentum tensor represents the energy density of the system. Since we are speaking relativistically here, does this mean that I will have to do a Lorentz transform and calculate the relativistic mass of the system, multiply this relativistic mass by C^2 and then divide this product by the volume in which this energy is contained? I ask this because one video that I watch described the temporal component as an mc^2 term and mentioned nothing about volume. I can not really imagine any density terms not involving some units of volume in the calculations. If I have the wrong idea of energy density, can any experts in the subject correct me and give me clarification on the general relativistic definition of energy density (as pertains to the stress energy momentum tensor)? Some mathematical formulas would be nice if you can give some.
Similarly for the momentum density terms, do I have to calculate the relativistic mass, multiply that by velocity and then divide this product by volume? Finally, are the top row elements and the left-most column elements (aside from the purely temporal component) really the same thing?
I would greatly appreciate any answers from experts or people knowledgeable in the field.
