The Crow had Shisui's eye which could use Kotoamatsukami. When Naruto faught Edo Itachi, it triggered the crow and the Kotoamatsukami freed Itachi.

Itachi used the crow to free himself from Edo Tensei's control.

Itachi put the eye in the crow and put a jutsu in the eye waiting to trigger when he looked into a mangekyou sharingan (originally meant for Sasuke) and put a genjutsu on the person to stay loyal to the Konoha, but it triggered on Itachi first before he fought Sasuke so the genjutsu was place on Itachi to protect Konoha bypassing the Edo Tensei.
