Can someone become the Sixth Hokage?

So Danzo was the Sixth Hokage Candidate. Technically he became Hokage during the time of the 5 Kage Summit, Danzo had already gained the approval of the Konoha counsel and the Daimyo. During the time of the Summit, the Jonin votes were coming through, in which he succeeded in gaining their overall approval. Although he died before he returned to the Village so it was never made official, had he of returned then he would have become the Hokage almost instantly.

I've heard some people argue that it's no longer possible for someone to become the Sixth Hokage and that the next Hokage will be the seventh. Others say that the next Hokage will be the Sixth regardless of Danzo. Unless someone knows for sure, it seems to be a case of opinion on the matter?

Danzo is irrelevant as the Hokage it was never fully official. Also because his face was never carved on the monument it makes it easier to forget about him and is more logical that the next is the Rokudaime.

You forgot that the jounins wouldn't have voted for Danzo to be hokage, Danzo's is surrounded by too much darkness. Kakashi even said Danzo was Hokage for the time being

. Had Danzo returned to Konoha, he would have been jailed and imprisoned or put to death, what he did at the Kage summit could easily have made all 4 nations enemies to Konoha and leave them in trouble, no kages trust Danzo so for him to be Hokage means enemies of the 4 nations

Danzo was the Sixth Hokage Candidate. He was like the Acting Hokage since Tsunade was in a coma. He'd been appointed by the Daimyo, but hadn't yet been confirmed by the Jounin. Both are required to officially become Hokage.

The Jounin never voted him in, they never had the chance. The vote was going to be held after Danzo returned from the Kage Summit. He knew that most ninja distrusted him due to the darkness around him, but felt that after the Kage Summit, where he had been appointed the Supreme Commander of the Shinobi Alliance's forces, the Jounin would have had no choice but to vote for him.

The Raikage even said later on that after Danzo's actions at the Summit, Konoha would strip him of his rank.

Danzo was the 6th hokage, Too many people on this thread are confused, he was appointed, he wasn't acting in the place of tsunade, he was actually the hokage
