Of course he can, he is a strategy man. She is book smart, she can see through strategy well based on feats. However, he comes up with them so quickly if it came down to this stuff he would win.

Sakura's is book smart, yes. But she is also a quick thinker as well as a analytical fighter herself. Shikamaru has only face against people who uses a certain pattern in order to excitute an attack, never and hand to hand fighter like Sakura.
He read Tayuya flute notes to track her attacks, (Sakura did the same with Sasori and the sound ninja)
With Temari he lured her to a hole in the ground, because she is a stationary fighter,
Hidan was just an idoit

What im saying is that Sakura thinks equally as quickly, and without some sort of precognition ability Shikamaru can't predict Sakura's next move. Sakura isn't predictable, which is how she outsmarted Sasori

And I dont get the whole book smart thing, in the manga it was depicted as analytical skill

Sakura replaced Tsunade, a part of being a medical ninja is applying knowledge to surgery which implies Sakura has a quick thinking ability, and is creative.
In order for Shikamaru to outsmart Sakura he would have to have some sort of precognitive ability.

Punching the ground is only used like twice in the manga, are you serious?

SHe punched her opponent directly. She was able to replicate the sharringan precognition, throught her intellect alone allowing her to track Sasori attacks.

How did Sakura get into Kaguya's blindspot to land a punch on her? She clearly worked out the secret but she didn't show any strategic thought before landing the punch. What does this tell you? Sakura finds instant solutions to problems without the need for strategy. The same way she had an instant solution in the form of an antidote for Sasori's poisons and the same way she sussed the hole in Shikamaru's theory on the secret of Pain.

Shikamaru needs time to strategize and even then his solutions to problems have been pretty half-baked. Failed plans include vs team dosu, during the sra, vs Hidan (the first try), the war arc where he thought the alliance learning a d rank earth jutsu on the fly would tank a tbb, amongst many others.

Sakura has feats and hype. Village's shrewdest child, instant antidote for Sasori's poisons, whizzed med-school in 3 years, worked out the secret of Pain, found Kaguya's blindspot and many more.
