Can sharingan be extracted/transplanted in their unreleased forms?

I'm confused about this because when kakashi got obitos eye it was in sharingan form,same as madara obtaining izunas

Im pretty sure itachis MS faded back to his normal brown eyes before death

Also what about the other dojutsu?

This has never really been clarified in the manga, I would assume it would stay unreleased? Every time we've seen a transplanted eye that WASNT in the clan(danzo,kakashi, ao, etc) their eyes have never been deactivated, whilst madara and sasuke are both able to deactivate their transplanted eyes. My guess would be if you aren't from the clan/bloodline the eyes originate from, then you can't activate/deactivate the dojutsu, it stays in whatever state you get it

Even if Itachi's eyes faded, his chakra essence is still there. Once an Uchiha awakens the Mangekyou Sharingan, they start producing special chakra in their brain. One Sasuke transplanted Itachi's eyes, he mixed his special chakra with Itachi's eyes and duss Itachi's eyes gained new light never to fade again. The same with Madara and Izuna. Maybe it's that special chakra that lets the user activate and deactivate the dojutsu.

Kakashi was unable to deactivate the Sharingan, he covered it to not waste chakra. This could be due to the fact that he wasn't an Uchiha. So if he received an unreleased Sharingan, probably it would stay that way, or not... It is kind of messed up because while Obito sharingan evolved, Kakashi sharingan also evolved, so who knows.

Maybe if there is a link between the eyes like Kakashi and Obito had, an unreleased Sharingan can be activated but only if the original owner was alive.

Madara (Izuna eyes) and Sasuke (with Itachi eyes) are able to fully use the dojutsu.

Ao was able to activate and deactivate his transplanted Byakugan.

AFAIK Nagato activated the Rinnegan when he was young but wasn't able to revert it back to its normal state, he used his hair to cover it but there is no hint that his Rinnegan consumed his chakra.

He didn't activate it I think bz somehow plot transplanted them into nagato, or obito did i don't recall

Zetsu implies that it was Madara himself that transplanted them

Yes. The eye remains in the state in which it is obtained. If Obito's Sharingan wasn't activated at the time of its extraction, then Kakashi would just have received a regular eye. Sasuke still had a Mangekyou Sharingan because Itachi's eyes evolved to become his own.

I think if the sharingan is activated or not what matters is the eye has uchiha dna so another uchiha can activate it, the only time it would be ineffective is when a non uchiha gets it without the sharingan then you only receive regular eyes.

as for sharingan and rinnegan we never saw them activate or deactivate on non uchiha bodies so id assume you cant. (unless maybe oyu transplanted some uchiha dna in your body idk.)


HOWEVER Ao had a byakugan which he could activate and deactivate at will like a hyuuga U_U

For non-Uchiha, Sharingan eyes stay in the state that they are given. If the non-Uchiha awakens a level above like Kakashi, they can switch from 3T to MS and back.

The Byakugan can be activated/deactivated at will, regardless of the user's lineage... as shown by Ao and Boruto. The Rinnegan's only be shown to be activated/deactivated by the original owners, who knows for the Tenseigan and the Rinne Sharingan has its own eyelid.
