Sage Mode gave Naruto certain abilities that made his victory possible (Frog Kata and the natural chakra turning people to stone). Sasuke did not have ways to counter many of Pain's abilities at the time. Sage Mode in many ways was the perfect way to fight Pain.

Sasuke would probably lose with MS.

With EMS maybe.

wow what? madara didnt indirectly teach him anything. and how do you know madara mastered rinnegan, when all we know is that he got them just before he died?

At the same time naruto defeated pain, could sasuke of done the same? Could sasuke survive?

No, not if he didn't get the info that Naruto/Konoha did. Just an initial 1-on-1 battle with no prior knowledge of Pain's techs? No. Plus, Naruto wouldn't have one if it weren't for the Nine-tails.

Edit: Actually with prior knowledge, I don't think he has much of a chance.
