Can Madara use Uchiha Return without his Gunbai?

In chapter 601, Madara performed an Uchiha Return to protect and deflect Naruto's attack. So my question is does it need a Gunbai to be used, or can it be any other weapon?

Probably so. Not too sure if it would be strong enough to counteract things like a BM Naruto Rasengan though.

His gunbai probably has some special properties to it, because he is Madara Uchiha and that's his tool.
