The strongest members of New World possess haki. But other than defying logia, can it actually retract the power of Zoan and Paramecia?Discuss.
I've always been under the impression that haki does somewhat nullify a persons devil fruit / negate it's effects, however as I read this post that instance with Buggy and Mihawk came to mind. I would have thought haki would stop Buggy from being impervious to slash attacks but mihawks had no effect... Unless for some reason Mihawk wasn't using it at the time as it wasn't necessary to cut Luffy (he didn't have haki so to use it would be overkill and a waste of energy perhaps?)You can't hurt luffy physically bluntly without haki
Edit : / thread
You have to pummel Buggy for it to matter because even Shanks said so himself that because of his devil fruit, it doesn't matter how many times they cut him up his devil fruit allows him to re-attach at will.I've always been under the impression that haki does somewhat nullify a persons devil fruit / negate it's effects, however as I read this post that instance with Buggy and Mihawk came to mind. So now I'm a bit on the fence to how it works, or just thought about it too much that I'm just confusing myself here :dunno:
Maybe Mihawk just didn't use haki , I didn't and never expected him to have used it at that time because at the time. Oda didn't care much for haki or have much development into it. When did Shanks say this? Was the person using haki? Just that I actually don't recall this scene unless it was some really old flashback or something? You have to pummel Buggy for it to matter because even Shanks said so himself that because of his devil fruit, it doesn't matter how many times they cut him up his devil fruit allows him to re-attach at will.
So cutting Buggy with haki would be the same thing as cutting Buggy with a regular slash since the chop chop fruit already allows him to cut his body in half regardless.
He had developed it... In the same arc both Marco and whats his face used it, which was referenced by Akainu. Mihawk, being on the side that he was should have gone for the kill against the pirates, so you would expect him to be using haki really... But maybe against Luffy he knew Luffy couldn't stop a slash so I think I am now going to take it that he wasn't using it.Maybe Mihawk just didn't use haki , I didn't and never expected him to have, because at the time. No he hadn't developed it. Hes developed it now. It was in the process of being developed. Show me where anyones skin turned black in any chapter close to the one you're bring up, show anyone sensing people around without seeing them. When did Shanks say this? Was the person using haki? Also if that's the case, Why does Luffy being rubber negate blunt attacks, and then when the same attack is haki coated it effects him? I don't understand why Buggy's would be different.

It was chapter 0 when they were aboard the Pirate Kings ship:When did Shanks say this? Was the person using haki? Just that I actually don't recall this scene unless it was some really old flashback or something?
Well for buggy he can re attach at will because of his fruit, luffy cannot do that with rubber. So if Buggy gets cut with haki, he will be split in half even if Buggy miraculously gained buso haki himself and engage Mihawk in a power struggle for a little while before ultimately being cut in half by his sword, he still will be able to re-attach himself together because that's what his devil fruit allows him to do.Also if that's the case, Why does Luffy being rubber negate blunt attacks, and then when the same attack is haki coated it effects him? Mihawk had haki the same time Shanks did because they were rivals that ended in a stalemate. On top of that all of Mihawk's attacks cut luffy open a little bit. The only thing he hasn't been shown to cut open is diamond, which is understandable. He had developed it... In the same arc both Marco and whats his face used it, which was referenced by Akainu. LOL! Dude, it get's used in the very first chapter... haha. It then get's used by many characters leading up to that exact point. All types of haki have been used and to address your second point, Coby. You literally see him having a freak out because he is sensing everyone around him through observation haki dying and shit. Edit: and everyone knows this because oda said it himself he hadn't thought it through or had it completely developed before the ts
Hmm... That was chapter 0? Blimey, thought that was much later on that scene... But Luffy's devil fruit inherently allows him to not be hurt via blunt attacks, so why does haki negate that going by your logic? Whether it was haki or not, if it is the same blunt attack it should surely just result in the same manner? Not effective. It was chapter 0 when they were aboard the Pirate Kings ship:

The chop chop fruit allows you to be severed and attach yourself together.

When shanks used kings haki on the sea king, oda even said, he hadn't had haki developed at that time. What shanks did at the time was merely scare it with his stare, but oda changed that.LOL! And as for the black colouring, that could have just been implemented for us readers. I've made a post (or maybe even a thread) about this and my own take on it. As readers I believe we see the One piece world through the eyes of the Strawhats as we follow them along their Journey, and the reason why we don't see haki coloured is because only those that know of it can actually see the manifestation of it. For example, Garp hitting Luffy (haki being used again way before the TS) and being effective. They are all confused on why it hurts Luffy when it looks like a normal punch. However, once they are all aware of haki (after the TS) we can now see haki being as a black coating as an armour
..... Or this was just Oda throwing us a bone constantly to hype up the big reveal of haki and made it clear when people were using with the colour black.

I don't quite see what your point is here? I know Mihawk has haki, I'm wondering if he was using it at the time to cut Luffy up, as it wouldn't have been necessary to use it on Luffy he might have just done a normal slash, which is why I was thinking Buggy's fruit wasn't negated.
Edit: That wasn't to me, aha. My bad.
Where has Oda said this? Show me. Show me Mr. "you're not oda."When shanks used kings haki on the sea king, oda even said, he hadn't had haki developed at that time. What shanks did at the time was merely scare it with his stare, but oda changed that.
Coby was WATCHING people die around him not sensing them silly and don't call me a dude, dude
Oda said haki before ts wasn't properly developed. So it wasnt, you're not oda, idc how many opinions and theories or assumptions you give me, what ODA SAYS GOES, you're not oda or a helper of his
