Can Guy actually beat Hashirama alone?

No... Gai cannot do enough damage to hashirama in 7th gate mode. Hashirama has too much defense+ healing abilities. There is no way gai can beat hashirama with 7th gate. Hashirama can survive, heal, then attack a weakened gai for the win. Gai absoultely needs 8th gate to kill hashirama and then it would be a draw.

Hashirama can continue to hide & send poisonous pollen throughout his wood clones & Flower tree world and Gai wouldn't know where Hashirama is. Gai would burn out.

This is what I tried to explain to them. Since, the user kicks them and kills the target, which means the user has already won the battle.

This is the last one standing, like Pokemon where two battles and goes all out and clashes against each other, then who wins? The last one to stand is the winner.

If people in the Narutoverse knew Guy had the 8th gates and how powerful it was, why isn't anyone acknowledging than he's more powerful than Kakashi? Hashirama's was able to defeat not only Susanoo but the nine tail fox. The only reason he failed was because Madara's receivers were blocking his Chakra. Madara himself said it's like battling Hashirama, not that Guy is more powerful.

We can't compare as he we don't know what Hashirama's most powerful state was. As Guy could only damage Madara by giving away his life. The same can't be said for Hashirama.
