Can Gaara defeat Itachi?

As the title says, but in two different scenarios.

Distance: 50 yards
Knowledge: Current
Intent: To kill
Location: Kimimaro vs Gaara

Scenario 1:
Gaara without Shukaku

My opinion: I think Gaara would win in this case. His sands reaction speed was great enough to counter amaterasu. Amaterasu is Itachi's fastest move; so Gaara's sand can block all of his attacks. Neither of them would be able to hurt each other, but Gaara's chakra would keep him in the battle longer, plus he could bury Itachi's susanoo. As for Tsukyomi, Gaara knows not to look at an Uchiha's eyes. Plus he could fly and keep himself inside a sand bubble. As for crows and finger genjutsu, I believe his sand's auto protection will keep him safe while he breaks out, which shouldn't be difficult.

Scenario 2:
Perfect Shukaku Jin Gaara

My opinion: Curb stomp, he can just let Shukaku run loose. Itachi's only hope would be the Totsuka Blade, but even them Shukaku is made of sand. Genjutsu is easily countered as each can influence each others chakra.

Ama & genjutsu. Gaara never countered ama, only enton shot from an orb. Ama spawns on the target so unless gaara is constantly protecting himself then he's gonna get hit, not to mention itachi can cover an entire forest in the flames so even defending won't be enough here.

As for genjutsu gaara has no counter, many characters know not to look into an uchiha's eyes but only few can fight properly like that [eg. Gai], then there's ephemeral which can be cast from the finger, so gaara will have to avoid all upper body contact.

Couldn't Gaara's invisible sand body armor take care of that? I don't see a reason why it couldn't considering a Chakra cloak could counter Amaterasu.
OT: Despite what I said, Itachi probably wins.

, so gaara would have to know that ama is coming & would have to prepare the armor during that time. & Since it also restricts his movements by making him heavier then itachi blitzing via genjutsu becomes more likely.

Itachi fairly easily, Scenario 1 easily get's cleared with Genjutsu, Tsukuyomi is not even needed here.
Scenario 2, Gaara turns into Shukaku,Itachi activates Full Susano'o, Uses Totsuka blade to seal Gaara for eternity.
