I agree I love both characters and I thought Gaara was sooooo cool when he fought Deidara(sp) even though he lost. Even when Gaara did have the one tail the sand couldn't keep up with Lee's speed so I doubt it could with Gai. And now that he doesn't have the one tail, well I love Gaara but it's not helping him. Gai would win.

I said he can't really I didn't mean as he couldn't like someone asking another person are they hungry they can answer yes, no, and not really.Gaara can't density his sand able to a extra level to making to a extreme lenght for example.
See how Ōnoki changed the density of the weight of the sand to make it lighter if gaara was so good at that then why not have done it him self???

Okay I see what you mean. + rep for the argument. Everyone else is just hiding. lol On topic, you're right he isn't able to fully control the sands density because he can't make it light, but in this case against Guy he doesn't need it to be light. His sand is already fast enough to block Amaterasu, and he's going to need that density to block Guys attacks.
Also on a different note, those saying that Gaaras chances of winning are less without the Shukaku are wrong. The only thing that the Shukaku gave to gaara was a bigger chakra reserve, the sand armor, and insomnia. lol If he fought Guy with the Shukaku chances are he would lose control and get the shit beat out of him. Gaara alone has improved past what he was with the Shukaku, and he has also shown that he has a lot of chakra without him in this war. He took on his father, Mu, The Second Mizukage and Madara before finally having to be healed by Tsunade. That is more than enough chakra to take care of Guy in my opinion. Gaara is stronger with his mother than he was without being able to control the One Tail.

LOL noon tiger will wreck gaara and he's so called absolute defense(which is penetrate/blitz by 2 genin)
and kisame is not skinny he already absorb some chakra from the samahada and also don't compare ksiame durability to gaara

I don't think people aren't saying he can't improve, I personally just think of him as the last time I saw him, obv not at the chunin exams. I'm not thinking of what any character could eventually be or what they might be able to achieve someday, I just think of them as they are today and right now with Guy's overflowng youth I think he could win. But who really knows?
Even though he took some chakra from Bee, he still was not at full power. He also didn't have Samehada. If you remember a while back Guy Sensei had to go all the way up to 6 Gates just to take on a clone of Kisames who was at 30%. And why not compare Gaaras durability to Kisames? Gaara took on a full blown explosion from the Second Mizukage without his sand and kept on rolling.

With that kind of durability, and with the density, speed, and amount of sand he can surround himself with Gaaras so called "Ultimate Defense" can tank Daytime Tiger. Also, no one has provided a decent argument on how Guy would counter Gaaras Sand Tsunami. Tell me, what can Might Gai do against that? The only way for Guy to win this is if he goes all the way up to the eight gate, and we all know what will happen then.

tanked the attack with sand ball ? i don't think so it will hit gaara and break his defense
gaara manage to withstand 2nd mizukage explosive with his defense, while kisame take on noon tiger "naked" LOL
and also kisame isn't low on chakra back then u see how big that daikodan no jutsu tech sure it takes a lot of chakra to produce something like that, and kisame stated that the jutsu will grow even bigger by absorb the opponet jutsu, but like we all know there is no chakra in gai noon tiger.

You're ignoring the manga, and the character that was right in front of Gaara to witness what happened. And again, just because he was able to use Daikodan does not mean he was at full power, Kisame naturally has a huge chakra reserve. (tailess tailed beast ring any bells?) If you don't believe me look back at the fight with Guy and Kisames clone and see how much Kisame was able to do with a simple clone at 30% strength.
You also didn't tell me what Gai can do against Gaaras sand tsunami. Please tell me how Guy can escape this.

Gaara.Let's be realistic. Lee went to the 5th gate and he only damaged his sand shield...Gaara didn't use any of the abilities he used against Kimimaro(he was just moving the sand to catch Lee ._.)Gaara could even walk normally when the fight finished. And now he's like x10000 stronger.

I know it's pretty much over, but here is some more overkill that I didn't think about until now. Gaara can simply use his sand jutsus while in the air completely out of Guys range. That's including the Sand Tsunami, and before anyone says that he needs to be on the ground to use it that's not entirely correct. Gaara was able to pull a massive amount of sand from the sky when he fought Deidara.
Gaara wins no matter which way you look at, he is a bad match-up for Guy.

that shield of shukaku and as we know gaara cannot use that anymore and the reason gaara could use that huge sand statue because he was fighting in the desert so he can use the surrounding sand to his own but iDK how will it turn out if they were fighting in another terrain,
my bad since that chapter is uber boring seeing the troll kage and the cyrbaby kazekage fighting is boring, but still kisame durability is better than gaara,
oh and about that sand tsunami, that jutsu is not instant gaara need time to collect the sand form the terrain, well even if he manage to use that jutsu gai will jump out of range on that jutsu in 6 gate mode and blitz gaara :izuna:
