there is no why he could have read the uchiha tablet...unless wood style somehow allows for that.

I expect that he was able to find some stories about the Sage and his mythical powers during his time as Hokage and making alliances.

The only other explanation would be if he read the Uchiha tablet, but that would be impossible unless he had an Uchiha to read it for him.
