Well, I'm not Christian, but I think their explanation is that all people now originate from Noah's family, and that God's punishment to people was to fill the Earth with different languages since people disobeyed. As for incest, it's harmful because you inherit mutated genes that create issues, and Adam and Eve, didn't have them. As for race, I don't know their justification, nor do I know how long it would take for differences in people to occur for people to get different races, so you got me there.

There were some legitimately funny parts in that, I gotta admit, but I still find it amazing that atheists critique the Bible and seem to know less about its stories and circumstances than actual Christians.

Apart from Genesis (which is said to have been received by Moses directly from God), the passages, chapters, whatever that are in the Bible are not actually God's word. They're accounts given by their various authors who lived during that time period(s) or spoke to people who did and experienced those events. Unlike God, people are not perfect. They make mistakes when passing down information (the whole concept of oral history, everyone?) and, since the Bible was written by people, the Bible is imperfect. It's affected by the time in history it was written in, just like everything else. People didn't have the understanding of time and its passage that we do now (Noah was probably older than average, but he certainly wasn't 500 years old when God came to him to warn him of the flood), EVERYone thought the Earth was the center of the universe, and EVERYone looked down upon homosexuals and saw women as the inferior ***. These were norms of the time and they affected certain teachings that made their way into the Bible. God doesn't damn gays and feminists, He didn't create the world in exactly seven days, and the Bible never once even mentions the universe at large outside of the sun, moon and stars (at least not in Genesis which, as I said, is where God's word truly counts). The authors of the Bible weren't stupid, Jefferies. They were uneducated, and there's absolutely a difference there.

Genesis is the only scripture that explicitly uses phrasings like "And God said" as opposed to Moses and Isaiah and Jesus and Paul, etc. As for the others, these are all people who saw biblical events unfold and saw fit to remember them until somebody wrote them down. If I recall correctly, the first writing systems came roughly three thousand, maybe six thousand years before Christ, so events that came before then were surely distorted by the time they were written and preserved. They got more accurate in their recordings as time passed, I'm sure. And religion is constantly being corrupted from the original intent, just as much in the preservation of the Bible as it is now in those Godless folk down at Westboro.

I don't look to the Bible to confirm my faith. I'm a Christian because Jesus of Nazareth actually lived and because I don't see the universe existing without a Creator, so I kinda put two and two together. I look to the Bible for wisdom, which it's given quite a lot of since I was saved (just under a month ago, actually *_*).

Well, most all Christians will tell you there's a difference between believing in God and having faith in His power and the changes He can make in your life. When you're "saved" through Christ, you not only accept that he died on the cross and why he did it, but that his sacrifice saved you from eternal punishment in Hell. I believed in Him for a long time, but it wasn't until recently that I really felt that acceptance come over me. And it is a feeling, believe me. I couldn't stop crying when it happened.
