I made this thread out of curiosity.. Im in a soccer team training squad, and they make us get into all that, so we wont be off form and gain weight..
They say a normal person eats about 2,000 calories a day, and to mantain your weight a 1,700 calorie diet is perfect, and a 1,200 calorie diet will make you lose about one to 2 pounds per week. I currently eat 1,500 calories, and it is hard to mantain this diet, seeing that a burger a fries and a coke by itself can mantain 1,600 calories, so a person that is triying to be in shape would just have to eat that all day in order to not gain weight.

This is my daily eating pattern, tell me if its too much, too little, etc, I think its too much, seeing that my family tends to gain weight really fast so i have to watch the calories..

In the morning is a diet soda, with half a sandwhich and a yogurt with some tostada chips..
In the afternoon its a regular, just one portion of the food being served, which can be beans with a piece of meat, etc.. I dont serve myself two portions, just one.
And at night I end my day with a bowl of cereal.
In between I dont eat junk food, and all that stuff, that is basically what i eat all day. In youre guys perspective, is it too much or too little? And what do you think of calories, and about how many do you consume

Did you actually know that its not what you eat that makes you fat, that its the quantity..? Lets say for example, that everyday you eat twinkiies, cookies, etc, but dont go above 1,700 calories.. Instead of gaining weight, you will lose weight. There was this obese scientist that tried the infamous twinkiie diet, and for a whole month all he ate was sweets, cookies, twinkies, pure junk food, but didnt go above the 1,700 calorie intake, and guess what..? He lost 30 pounds. But the calories in one twinkiee are about 300, and the same goes for a chocolate bar, and about three oreo cookies are still 300 calories, so in a way he did kinda had to watch the quantity of the sweets he ate..

Yes I live in america, but I live in a borderland, just like san diego/tijuana. So in el paso tx, 75 percent of the population is mexicans, as ciudad juarez chihuahua mexico(my hometown) is just about 20 minutes from here. So my coach is from juarez mexico, and crosses 3 days a week to teach here in el paso tx.. So anyways what do you guys think of my nutrition? Poor, average, excesive?

Too much. If you're trying to get a cut/lean build you should change your diet.

In the morning, do not drink diet soda. I'd change it to a glass of orange juice, or just a bottle of water. As for food in the morning, I only eat a banana for breakfast because i eat a big lunch. I would limit your breakfast to just the yogurt and maybe some fruit.

Lunch is when you should eat the most, considering usually after lunch time is when you will be doing most of your physical activity. And you'll burn off most of what you eat. You can usually eat a good proper meal for lunch, no need to really hold back. If you drink a soda try to limit it to 1/2 glasses.

As for dinner, keep it light. Maybe some toast with the cereal, or just cereal is fine.

Just limit the food you put in your mouth and after a month your body will be used to not needing as much food, and make sure you drink a lot of water/green tea.

Sprite zero and such, lol. But hey, in the back it says it has 0 calories, and I have done research, and they say what makes you fat is the amount of calories that you consume, its the quantity of the food, not what you actually eat

Well leaf spirit you can't say whats too much and whats not, it varies from person to person, depending on their metabolism. Depending on how it works in your body you can get fat or slim. If your body doesn't break down food too well it will turn into fat. Instead of focusing how much calories you take you should work on making an appetite of food that improves your digestive capabilities. Take a red apples while you train, instead of soda start drinking milk and eat more veggies as your heritage seems to get fat quick you should primarily work on improving that fault in yourself.

I think eating light snacks throughout the day is better, it keeps your metabolism going and you can have a variety in your diet. And it also sounds like you are going backwards in your meals...dinner in them morning...cereal at night? lol It's best not to eat before you go to bed though, because it's harder to burn off. Fruit, yogurt, and salads are what keep me going. I have some protein in the middle of the day too. But I'm a girl..so my diet is kinda different lol:D

lately, i've been very watchful over my calorie intake as I myself am underweight. I don't know how much help this is to you, as you are active (unlike me) but I'll try and give you a few pointers. For breakfast, you should have either cereal, yoghurt or wheat. Cereal along with milk (being a dairy product) is fairly high in calories, and the good stuff as well as yoghurt. I tend to have bread with either eggs or cheese (in a sandwich) as according to the bread packaging, the bread I eat is 90 cals per bread and I have at least 4. 90 x 4 = 360 + whatever I have on the side. Lunch is important to keep you going through the second half of the day and seeing as you're still in school, you can't cook for yourself I'm presuming but I would suggest some sort of pasta-based meal as they contain some serious calories O_O and maybe try some rice or just sandwiches but try to at least get around 700-800 cals. Dinner is up to you really up to you, do what you like... just try to at least get around around 600-800 cals in that one meal but it should not be a problem as dinner is the biggest meal; try to get some meat as well as some vegetables.
Drinking soda for calories is generally a bad idea as soda has empty calories and have no real nutrition... Try to drink fruit juice or smoothies, though personally I drink milkshake <_< a lot... which is like 60 cals per 100ml and I get through at least a litre per day. Snacks are up to you really, there's nothing wrong with snacking imo as your body gets use to the intake, you will be able to eat more. Chocolate is full of calories but generally go for the healthier option, I recommend banana's XD

It's not bad to have one a day, but it's not good to start your day off with a soda. Just because it has 0 calories doesn't mean it's good for you, diet soda in some cases is worse than having regular soda. Especially (if i assumed right) you're still a teenager.

Hey thanks for the responses guys, specially you Gatsndshanks that really took your time on that post. Well one thing you guys need to keep in mind is the quantity you eat not what you really eat. I havent been active for like 4 moths as im injured and cant play soccer for a while, and I weight 118. I never eat a whole sandwhich, i always eat half a sandwhich with just a 100 calorie toasted bread, and a 30 calorie ham, plus white cheese slices.. I love white cheese. I admit I have been over eating, I need to do something about that.. And the reason I drink diet soda so much(about two to three cans per day) is because it has zero calories and does indeed get you full, while an concentrated orange juice has about 120 calories per serving, so if you serve yourself in an average cup its about double like 240 calories =O. I also love tostada chips, yougurt, white cheese and cereal.. Lol and orochimaru, i have the same problem. I have a slender body, but kinda got a little stomagh going, so im a little wide from my chest, but I guess theres nothing you can do about that, like in the naruto anime/manga when naruto saskue, even kankuro didnt have shirts, they looked a little wide from their bone structure, because they arent kids anymore, the bone structure changes.. But I rarely eat pizza, hamburgers, that kind of food, they tell me that you neade grease in your system also, im very cold sensative, and they say is because of the lack of fats in my system...
Im 20 by the way.
Another intresting fact is that for every 3,000 calories you eat per day, you gain two pounds of body fat, and somethimes a hamburger with fries and a soda has more than half of that.. Lol we better watch out!
