Finished with C³, I was worried since I heard it wasn't all that great but surprisingly enough I enjoyed it.
C³ is about a nice guy named Haruaki Yachi and his group of close friends. You've got Fear Kubrick, a girl who is a cursed cube in human form, Konoha Muramasa, a cursed sword similar to Fear, and Kirika Ueno, the class president with some dark secrets of her own. Part of the story is school comedy with some fanservice, but there's also some dark action and drama. Fear was originally a torture device, and as such she has a lot of blood on her hands and holds guilt for all of the killing she was used for. As a result, she wants to be free from that feeling and becomes more acquainted with what it means to be human and tries to lift her curse by helping other people. Of course, when you have demented individuals who either despise her kind or love her kind to the point where they reject the notion of her humanity being a possibility, conflict is inevitably gonna take place and that's where most of the interesting stuff happens.
As always, 12 episodes felt too short to develop the story. Good stuff happened and there's a lot of potential, but unfortunately there were only a few arcs so the concept wasn't elaborated on very much and apparently only 2 volumes of the light novel are translated (and from what I've heard the anime got through the first 3). Character development wasn't bad for the short run time, and in particular Fear and Kirika had the best development in my opinion, though others could have used more. Fights were great though, the action was well done and the graphics were nice as well. Yukari Tamura did a great job voicing Fear, from the cute, clumsy side of her to the darker, psychotic aspects of her original personality and that really added to her character and made the battles a lot more serious.
Can't forget about the openings. Both openings were fantastic, in particular I loved the first opening's song a lot but I think as an opening the second one is better and more fitting to the series itself along with the shift in character focus it takes in the last arc as well.
MAL rated C³ pretty low but I actually liked it. Wasn't a godly series but for a 12-episode anime that ranged from silly to violent, it did a good job and I would love for a second season to be made. The premise was definitely interesting and the series could do a lot more with it, if only it had more time to develop everything.
