I've been fighting with this guy about black Zetsu getting defeated when he attacked the lords but being able to "kill" Madara.

I only want to know what the actual reason behind this is, I know that I might be wrong.

lols. I've met people like him, the manga tells us Black zetsu was not fighting seriously, he was told by tobi to just keep the lords busy

BZ's ability is to control and use the powers of those he is wearing.

So black zetsu wearing white zetsu gives him the ability of white zetsu.

All BZ can do is mayfly or summon clones/spores.
