It was probably a sealing jutsu which was used to calm down the Kyuubi (showed in the panel after that one)

It must have been that Madara was starting to get exhausted in the intense battle + Hashirama is really uber strong so it could be the impact also, beast if it was the impact though

Hashis wood has been seen to be able to absorb chakra during the 4th ninja war when Madara used it.
As long as it is made of chakra, it will just get absorbed.

Madara used Susanoo armored Kurama's TBB shurikens to attack Hashirama. Hashirama used 10K Hands Statue Summoning against Madara's attack. Most of the statue's hands got destroyed against Madara's attack but at the same time, these hands destroyed Kurama's Susanoo armor too. Then Hashirama used his wood dragon along with the status to tame, drain Kurama's chakra and put Kurama in sleep.

These were really some great wood jutsus.
