Based on what we've witnessed in the original series the sharingan is definitely a force to be reckoned with. In the Boruto series its performance has been lacking against Otsutsuki level opponents. So I am wondering where do the two dojutsu stand in the eyes of the average fan.

The Byakugan is useless against Kakashi Dual Mangekyou Sharingan. Anything that Kaguya does would go right through Kakashi.
Kakashi on the other hand can reach Kaguya easy.

The byakugan and things related to it are still slowly getting more development, but right now the sharingan and things related to it are still better.
Also, you mention how Sasuke has been struggling against Otsutsuki opponents. However, it should be noted that it wasn't primarily the byakugan that those Otsutsuki opponents used to pressure Sasuke.
With Kaguya, the main issue that gave Sasuke and the others problems was the rinnesharingan with its dimensional shifting and portals.
With Momoshiki, it was mainly his rinnegan and his manipulation of the environment.
With Kinshiki, it was his raw speed/strength/durability and chakara weapons.
With Urashiki, it was his rinnegan abilities as well as his chakara stealing abilities.
With Isshiki, it was that unnamed dojutsu that allowed him to use Sukuna Hikona and Dai Kokuten.
Now, sure Kaguya's technique 80 gods vaccum attack is similar to the Hyuuga's vacuum palm, but that attack isn't a feat of the byakugan alone. You need juubi levels of chakara to actually be able to use that attack. It is a Kekkei Morra. In other words, no average Hyuuga could use that attack simply because they have the byakugan. The same goes for Kaguya's hair needles. You need very long hair for that and control over said hair.

No, she showed a god can beat sharingan... Had little to do with her Byakugan. You could also say she casted the entire world into a genjutsu with her evolved sharingan. Does that make sharingan better than everything? No. Can’t compare regular humans to gods like that.

The Byaugan has a 360-degree vision and Rotation. They have no blind spots. And the Phasing Technique cannot be used forever.

Alright, I used the wrong example. You are underestimating the Byakugan and overhyping the Sharingan which has shown many times it can be countered by normal means.
The byakugan seems to give the user an overall stat boost speed, power, reactions, and all kinds of jutsu are positively affected while also giving the user superior chakra control. There doesn't seem to be any negative drawbacks to using it. It allows the user to project chakra through any chakra point, block enemy chakra flow, 360 vision, clairvoyance, and it doesn't clog your pores. The sharingan makes you crazy and gives you wrinkles. I hope Sarada doesn't succumb to those weaknesses.

Kaguya wasn't able to dodge Kakashi Kamui shuriken or Kamui Raikiri, even though she had the Byakugan. Kaguya wasn't able to dodge or tell Sakura was behind her.
