[Question] Bullying

Ive been reading through the Global rules and I am wondering, why is there no rule against bullying? I mean sure it has got some aspects under Flaming, but that doesnt cover the entirety of bullying in all its forms. Why is there no information on how it can be dealt with? Or what the Admins and Moderators will do to make sure that each of the members that have been placed under their care, are safe from the damaging mental effects of bullying? Bullying is a terrible thing and I know as I have been subjected to it all, if not, most of my life. I dont wish it upon anyone, but there are still to many cases on this site where bullying has occurred and nothing has been done. How are we meant to feel safe and have fun when the fun that we are trying to have is being overwhelmed by the negative effects of bullying?


Why doesnt the Global rules explain the punishments for each of the flaming?

Flaming: A flame is an insult or slur directed to a member. Listed below are our definitions of "flames":

• Insults: Any type of insult directed from one member to another member. Please remember that there is a big difference between "criticism" and "insulting".
• Homosexual Slurs: Any type of homosexual slur directed from one member to another member, whether it'd be false claims that the member being flamed is a homosexual, or mocking a homosexual member for their sexual preference.
• Sexual Slurs: Any type of sexual slur directed from one member to another member, whether it'd be describing explicit sexual behaviors involving the member being flamed, or typing sexually explicit slurs using the likeness of the member being flamed.
• Racial Slurs: Any type of slur directed from one member to another member or ethnic background insulting a specific ethnic background.

Advertising: Advertising is when a member displays a link to a Web site not associated with Narutobase with the intent to draw visitors of Narutobase to their Web site:

• Advertising is not allowed on Narutobase no matter how it is done; Posting a thread, making a post, using a link at your signature or advertise through visitor or private messages a web site or forum not associated with NarutoBase, but based on manga or anime, is considered advertising and it will be treated with no tolerance at all. It falls under the moderators' discretion as to what is classified as "advertising" and the level of it, starting with a day's ban at least.

A punishment has been added to the information regarding advertisement, but why is there nothing like that for each of the Flames listed? I know that these rules were created during the time of the sites 'birth' but like with everything in this world, cyber or real. Changes always happen. As the site has grown the rules themselves should also be update to accommodate a wider range of situations as the population of Narutobase grew.

Given that I have a right to my opinion and everyone else has their own right to theirs. I ask politely that the only replies to this thread are constructive and also civilised.

i completely agree with u on this, i have been bullied through most of my life aswell and it is indeed a horrible thing to experience be it cyber or real time..

well yeah I know how you feel but there is no need for this since bullying in this form (via the internet ) is simply insulting another member and we already have a rule for that .Its not like real life since you can easily report the bully

Most of the time bullying goes pared with insulting. Also, don't think that just because it isn't up there we don't realize it. We don't take bullying lightly, but the thing is that there is a fine line between actual bullying and flaming. Bullying is something that is done over an extended amount of time, or something that happens periodically and has a pattern behind it.
If that actually occurs, we take the necessary steps to ensure that it ends. The problem here is most of the time that we are not made aware of the issue.

Anyways, we've been working on an update on the global rules. You're right in the fact that they are somewhat outdated and do not cover everything anymore. People try to find loopholes, but we're trying to fix that and we'll update them as soon as possible (as it's not an easy and "fix it in 5 minutes" task).

People have been getting banned left, and right. Some of them aren't even the type to do anything you've just listed. Like theRPgdude. He seems nice, and yesterday I was just wLking to him, and then an hour later he's banned. It's crazy.

However you must also realise that Cyber Bullying has been proven to cause an unnessasary amount of stress and anxiety upon an individual, which can then lead to problems and issues that effect their life outside in the real world.

Thank you very much for this clarification Wesobi. It pleases me to know that this is an issue that is not going unnoticed and that actions are being taken to try and make Narutobase a better place for all.

I also know that Updating information is not an easy task and appreciate the time that Moderators and Admins put into the site.

I think bullying needs to be explicitly stated in the rules, because you are right, sometimes you can bully someone without directly insulting, thus technically not breaking any rules. I'll forward this on to the powers that be so we can discuss it.

Retaliation isn't always the answer but to stand up against bullying is the right way to go. It makes it alot easier if you have friends that you can trust, to stand by your side.

To be honest I am not sure if this is relevant to bullying, however I would have to say that people at least have a right to know if they have done something wrong, that way they are able to learn from their mistakes.

Sometimes it is not as easy as that. Some people come onto this site to escape to a place where they can be accepted. Thats how I found Narutobase. Just ask yourself this, if the only way you could talk to your friends on this site was to actually log on here and talk, if you were a victim of bullying, would you be able to leave the friends you have made that easily?

I can see what you mean, and like how people may use NB as an escape from RL issues then its perfectly logical that RL can be an escape from problems on the net. However the effects of bullying vary from each individual so it is very difficult to determine how much it effects someone.

Personally, I would have to disagree. At no time is it appropriate for someone to make someone else feel lesser then they are.
