!

Just finished watching Btooom!, pretty enjoyable survival game anime. Sadly the anime was only 12 episodes long, but it did a fantastic job with the small time frame it was given.

So basically, the main character is Ryouta Sakamoto, a NEET who pretty much lives for gaming and essentially has no life. He's the top Japanese player of an online game known as Btooom!, and one of the best around the world. Btooom! is a game where players are given different types of bombs and a radar to identify the location of moving opponents. As it happens, Sakamoto and a bunch of other random people are thrown onto an island only to discover that they have to survive a real-life version of Btooom!. He learns that he's forced to kill 7 other people in order to get himself off the island, and obviously something like that is gonna cause a lot of psychological and moral tension. I'd say Btooom! is kinda like a cross between Future Diary and Sword Art Online, but with a lot of bombs and explosions.

The main characters are both given a lot of development, and I'd say it's at least sufficient considering the short runtime. I guess I could say Sakamoto is kinda like Kirito, except he's a much deeper character and his badass moments aren't nearly so Deus Ex Machina ish so that's always nice. Granted, he was a lot more of a douche when you look at his backstory, but that just means he develops a lot more as the story goes on and he turns out to not be such a bad guy after all. In particular though I really felt for Himiko (the female lead), who had a pretty terrible past as well as some traumatizing experiences early in the survival game. The story between the two is pretty interesting and treated pretty well considering they really don't get a lot of time together with such a short run, so I definitely enjoyed that.

Admittedly it's the type of story that I knew I would like from the beginning, but honestly I'm still pretty surprised. It did a much better job than a lot of other anime I've seen with 12 episode runs, and the ending wasn't honestly so bad either. Granted, it's obvious that there's a lot more that needs to be told and way too much has been left unresolved for obvious reasons, but it seemed like a good place to stop the anime at and doesn't pull the awful middle of arc conclusion that some series do.

And now I gotta read the manga, though I'm not sure how far ahead it is. Apparently it's still ongoing, which is a good thing but will also probably be a pain since I'll have to wait even more for new plot developments. But anywho, for now I'm satisfied with having watched the anime and I definitely enjoyed it more than I expected to.

Nice, how good is the manga compared to the anime? I really want to read it since there's no guarantee of a second season coming out anytime soon and the anime might've missed some parts considering how short it was. A lot of these type of stories tend to be better as manga than anime too so chances are I'd enjoy the manga more than the anime.

That was pretty awkward lol, I could practically feel the pain when that happened. It's no wonder the kid became a psycho with his dad treating him like that all his life.

whaaat df is this

It's a rather detailed scene. I can't say I do not disapprove of the action done within the episode. As it looks rather fun, and enjoyable.

Alright, guess it's best not to get my expectations too high then. Hopefully they'll make more of the anime in the future then.

Yeah there's some pretty crazy stuff in this, it's a pretty dark story and there is some mature content. Though I can definitely say there's far worse out there.

Sounds like a good anime !

Awesome, I hope you enjoy it. I had a great time with it and hopefully I can find more anime similar to it. It's short but well done.
