Oh, well in the first scenario, without bringing out his avatar, Naruto can't compete with Gai in speed or strength
and gets destroyed. He won't have time to counter with any jutsu, and even if he could prepare a Rasenshuriken,
he would never be able to hit Gai. EE trashes Naruto, and a Night Gai definitely one-shots Naruto.

In the second scenario, Naruto can protect himself well and win out by outlasting.
